Accountant
Virginia's Community College System is dedicated to providing quality education and workforce development. The Accountant will perform system-wide general accounting functions, assist with various accounting tasks, and work closely with the Facilities Management Department. Responsibilities Perform system-wide general accounting functions, including capital outlay general accounting and reporting, as well as plant fund general accounting and reporting Assist the Capital Outlay Accounting Manager and the Plant Funds Accounting Manager with daily and year-end tasks, including reviewing and analyzing maintenance reserve requests, preparing budget requests, recording fixed assets transactions, recording library books, and preparing accounting entries Work closely with the VCCS Facilities Management Department May be required to perform other duties as assigned May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor Skills Ability to analyze data Ability to prepare accounting entries Ability to effectively manage time and work on multiple assignments Ability to work independently and with little supervision Ability to interpret administrative policies and procedures, exercise independent judgment, and make sound business decisions Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships Education and/or working experience in general accounting Working knowledge of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Working knowledge of complex automated accounting systems such as Oracle, PeopleSoft, Cardinal, or other Oracle-based accounting systems Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Excellent customer service experience Experience with higher education, or state or local government, general accounting Experience with and working knowledge of PeopleSoft Financial statement preparation experience, including footnotes Fixed asset or capital outlay accounting experience Company Overview Since 1966, Virginia’s Community Colleges have given everyone the opportunity to learn and develop the right skills so lives and communities are strengthened.
