The California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation (CDCR) is seeking an Accounting Administrator I to join their Accounting Services Branch in Sacramento County. The role involves overseeing financial reconciliations, managing journal entries, and preparing the department's Year-End Financial Statements while fostering cooperative relationships within the department and external agencies. Responsibilities Please see attached duty statement Working Conditions This position requires a combination of telework and in-office work, in accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy and will be required to report to the office as needed/required The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment If you are meeting Minimum Qualifications with education, you should include your unofficial transcripts/diploma for verification Official transcripts may be required upon appointment If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board Applicants who completed their education outside of the US (with foreign degrees/transcripts) must obtain and submit verification of U.S. course/degree equivalency Candidates new to CDCR/CCHCS are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, as well as a Tuberculosis test/evaluation prior to appointment, followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter When submitting supporting documents, PDF file format is preferred Skills Experience in accounting, auditing, budgeting, and fiscal management Experience in overseeing accurate and timely month-end and year-end closing financial activities Experience in managing or leading a team Strong knowledge of governmental accounting standards, including Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP), State Administrative Manual (SAM), Uniform Code Manual (UCM), and Government Code Strong collaboration and clear communication abilities across internal teams and external control agencies and auditors Strong attention to detail and analytical skills with the ability to identify trends, variances, and problem areas in accounting and financial operations for improvement and implement solutions Strong organization and time management skills Effective communication skills, both verbal and written Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Access, Teams, Power BI, etc.) and automated accounting systems Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment Candidates new to CDCR/CCHCS are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, as well as a Tuberculosis test/evaluation prior to appointment, followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is REQUIRED to be submitted along with the State Application (STD. 678) and serves as a demonstration of the candidate's ability to present information clearly and concisely in a written format Shall create and promote an equitable and inclusive workplace where diversity is celebrated and valued Company Overview CDCR specializes in wide range of services like rehabilitation, parole supervision, and juvenile justice for enhancing public safety.
