The Accounting Manager is responsible for client-facing activities, which include but are not limited to meetings via phone call, zoom, and occasionally face-to-face. The Accounting Manager will also be responsible for the oversight of 2-3 employees, therefore you must demonstrate the ability to motivate and supervise a successful team. The ideal candidate should not only be able to conduct bookkeeping activities themselves, but also be able to pinpoint inaccuracies within your team’s work, rectify the errors, and offer appropriate guidance and training to your team to prevent future inaccuracies. The Accounting Manager is a unique blend of finance and accounting. You need to have an eye for the details, but also be able to walk clients through their financials at a high level, providing guidance where necessary. As an Accounting Manager, you'll: • You’ll be the leader of a team that will be responsible for accounting activities for up to 25 clients. You’ll be responsible for the end product for your team, as well as the HR related activities, up-to but not including terminating employees. • Perform in-depth analysis of P&L and Balance Sheet to identify and correct issues. You’ll be ultimately responsible for ensuring your clients have clean books. Having a deep understanding of the P&L and Balance sheet is a requirement for this position. • Direct your team to resolve identified issues, and effectively delegate to ensure your time is spent on high-level accounting tasks. • Meet with clients regularly to review the P&L, Balance Sheet, and Statement of Cashflows. • We're a "do whatever it takes" company, so there may be times you'll be asked to chip in on work that's outside of your primary job responsibilities. As a fast-growing startup, this just comes with the territory. No task is “beneath” anyone here, so you’ll need to be comfortable pitching in on whatever is required, such as… • Publish documents to Quickbooks Online from our document management software. • Clear bank feeds in Quickbooks Online • Enter bank deposits, checks, bills, vendor payments, journal entries, etc. • Submit payroll, perform payroll entries and payroll accrual. • Enter daily sales from clients’ point of sale systems. • Reconcile sales to clients’ POS monthly. • Reconcile credit card and bank accounts monthly. • Reconcile vendor statements, and manage vendor balances. • Regularly interact with clients to obtain necessary information and source documents. • Assist in onboarding new clients • Assist in training and mentoring staff. We're looking for someone who: • Experienced. We need someone who has handled all aspects of accounting for multiple different small businesses concurrently. Experience as a Controller or Accounting Manager would be relevant for this role, but you must have extensive accounting experience as it relates to full-cycle accounting in order to be successful. This isn’t a hand-holding position. The right candidate will be able to come in and more or less hit the ground running. • Self-starter. Absolutely must be able to do whatever it takes to learn what we're doing and hit the ground running. You'll have plenty of resources at your fingertips, but the rest will be up to you. Bonus points for making us better with your wealth of accounting experience. • Experience and understanding of Accrual based accounting is a must. • Knowledgeable. You must have an excellent understanding of accounting best practices (GAAP). The ideal candidate has a degree in accounting or a closely related field such as finance, business or economics, or is a former Controller or Assistant Controller. Being a QBO ProAdvisor is a plus, but not required. • Highly organized. This role will require you to juggle the needs and deadlines of up to 30 clients. We have all the software to support you in your role to make you as efficient as possible. • Ethical. The work we do requires the highest levels of ethics and integrity. The ideal candidate takes the details seriously. • A great communicator. You'll be required to meet regularly with your clients and communication is key. • A solid understanding of financials. You’ll be the final word on whether a client’s P&L, Balance Sheet, or Statement of Cashflows is accurate, and having a significant depth of knowledge around these reports is an absolute must. • Tech-savvy. We provide a variety of software products to support you in your role, but you must be capable of working with these platforms and figuring out new ones as they come along. • Flexible. The way that we'll be doing things is specifically geared to the needs of the niche we serve. This will require you to be flexible in your approach to doing the job, and it's very important that you are "on board" with our approach. • An adaptable, fast learner. Every client has unique requirements, so each one is a learning experience. We need someone who's not afraid to jump in and figure it out.
