Social Studies Assessment Writer - Contractor Gallopade International, Inc. is actively seeking an experienced and innovative Social Studies Assessment Writer to join our established curriculum development team as a contractor. In this role, you will have the opportunity to leverage your existing expertise in educational assessment while contributing to the creation of assessment items that effectively evaluate student learning across grades K-8. This position offers the chance to work collaboratively with seasoned educators, curriculum specialists, and subject matter experts in developing high-quality educational materials that make a meaningful impact in classrooms nationwide. Role Responsibilities Assessment Development & Writing • Design and develop effective K-8 assessment items that align with both state standards and Gallopade's curriculum materials • Develop a variety of summative assessment items (e.g., selected-response, constructed-response source/text-dependent) aligned to social studies standards across grade bands, using appropriate Depth of Knowledge (DOK) levels to ensure rigor and alignment • Craft engaging, developmentally appropriate assessment items using various auto-gradable question types while maintaining social studies accuracy and pedagogical effectiveness • Develop multi-part questions that effectively evaluate student understanding across different cognitive complexity levels Quality Assurance & Editorial Excellence • Ensure all assessments meet rigorous standards for accuracy, fairness, and current best practices in educational assessment methodology • Maintain appropriate reading levels and grammatical excellence in accordance with Gallopade's established editorial and curriculum guidelines • Conduct thorough reviews and revisions of assessment materials to ensure clarity, precision, and alignment with specific learning objectives • Adhere to comprehensive rubrics specifically designed to evaluate assessment writing quality Essential Qualifications & Experience Educational Background • Master's degree in Education, Curriculum Development, Instructional Design, Social Studies Education or related disciplinary field • Advanced coursework in assessment theory, educational measurement, or curriculum design strongly preferred Professional Experience • Multiple years of demonstrated success in assessment writing within K-8 educational settings • Substantial experience working in the educational publishing industry with understanding of publishing timelines, quality standards, and market demands • K-8 classroom teaching experience strongly preferred, with evidence of successful student outcomes and assessment implementation Technical Expertise • Comprehensive understanding of state-specific standards interpretation and implementation in classroom settings • Advanced knowledge of assessment writing principles including item construction, passage writing, distractor development, stem writing, multi-part question design, and cognitive complexity frameworks • Proficiency with educational technology platforms and digital tools commonly used in curriculum development, assessment delivery, and data analysis • Familiarity with various assessment formats and their appropriate applications in education Professional Skills • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication abilities with demonstrated capacity to convey complex concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences • Strong collaborative skills with experience working effectively in team-based environments • Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and meeting quality standards • Excellent organizational skills with experience in project tracking and deadline management.
