Associate Counsel, Content Protection

The Associate Counsel, Content Protection role involves providing legal guidance and support for copyright enforcement, assisting in investigations, and advising on requests from business units related to content protection. Responsibilities Provide guidance to the IP Operations team on the day-to-day enforcement of NBCUniversal’s copyrights, including reviewing potential fair use issues, reviewing copyright disputes from end users, responding to DMCA counter-notices, and sending C&D notices Provide support for incident response involving leaks of NBCUniversal content, including assisting investigations and enforcement Advise on requests from business units and licensees, including claiming of user-generated copies of NBCUniversal content on social media platforms, UGC monetization program, reviewing and drafting copyright enforcement and content security language, marketing and ad sales initiatives, and AI-generated content Conduct rights research and manage internal database of rights information Provide advice and counsel to the IP engineering team on the development and management of databases of NBCUniversal copyright enforcement rights Provide support for industry content protection legal actions including litigation, administrative actions, and criminal prosecutions Work closely with members of NBCUniversal’s various business units including Film, TV, International, and Sports Skills Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school, or foreign equivalent Member in good standing of the state bar of California, or member in good standing of another state bar and qualified to register as California in-house counsel 1+ years of experience as a practicing attorney with experience in intellectual property matters Ability to work in fast-paced, cross-disciplinary, tech-focused environment Solid team player able to work with professionals around the globe from a range of disciplines including Legal, Public Policy, Communications, and Technology Exceptional communicator who can discuss legal issues in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner with both lawyers and non-lawyers Must be comfortable learning and analyzing legal issues arising from new technologies 2+ years in private practice preferred Benefits Medical, dental and vision insurance 401(k) Paid leave Tuition reimbursement A variety of other discounts and perks Company Overview DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. engages in the development, production, and exploitation of animated films and associated characters It was founded in 1994, and is headquartered in Glendale, California, USA, with a workforce of 1001-5000 employees.
