Associate Director, Music Policy, Spotify for Artists

Remote, USA Full-time
We are looking for a creative, analytical, and passionate strategist to join the Spotify for Artists Marketing & Policy team - part of Spotify's division dedicated to helping to ensure Spotify is the most rewarding and powerful platform for artists to grow their careers and their business. This role is a critical leader on our team, managing our small and mighty policy team and positively impacting millions of artists around the world. The Spotify for Artists policy team focuses on developing and implementing policies that further our mission to provide a fair and equitable opportunity for artists, songwriters, distributors, labels, and publishers on Spotify - as well as educating the music industry about our platform rules. The role will work heavily in collaboration with our tech and product teams to build policy solutions. The scope of policies include how Spotify's $10 billion+ annual royalty pool is allocated, tactics to remove incentives for bad actors, and strategies to future proof our platform for new trends or technologies in the music industry, like AI. In communicating these policies publicly, our focus is to educate artists and the music industry at scale, so everyone has equal access to information and resources. In this role, you'll work with a cross-functional team from Licensing, Marketing, Public Affairs, Product, Engineering, Music Partnerships, Music Economics, and more in leading policy initiatives for the Spotify for Artists team - from the strategy, development, and implementation of new policies, to public messaging and education, to industry advocacy and engagement. What You'll Do • Lead a high-performing team focused on building a better future for artists, songwriters, and the music industry on Spotify. • Set and execute against a policy agenda for the team based on the biggest needs for artists, songwriters, music partners, listeners, and Spotify. • Develop and implement new policies that equitably impact the music ecosystem on topics like royalty administration, artificial streaming, new music technologies, music platform rules, and more. • Work hand-in-hand with product and engineering to implement technical solutions for our policy agenda • Craft clear, informative messaging about existing and new policies - and launch scaled educational initiatives to make sure artists, songwriters, distributors, and rights holders have accurate information about our platform. • Collaborate with Music Partnerships and Licensing to understand the needs of all the stakeholders on our music platform, to advocate for and explain new policies, and to listen to and incorporate feedback. • Partner with Data Science and Music Economics to deeply understand platform trends and the potential impact of various policy decisions. Who You Are • You have 8+ years of relevant experience in the music industry, policy, legal, or technology platforms. • You have proven experience in the music industry, working with artists and creators, and with technology platforms. • You're a dedicated people leader, caring deeply about the health and growth of the people on your team. • You have a deep passion for technology, love getting into the weeds of technical solutions, and have experience working closely with engineering • You have passion for creating a more rewarding, fairer experience for artists and songwriters around the world. You love music. • You're comfortable diving deep into spreadsheets, talking to technical teams, mapping out complex incentive systems, and sweating the details. • You're a strong communicator and a strong listener - understanding when to influence others and when to incorporate smart feedback. • You're experienced at bringing cross-functional teams together in a shared vision. Where You'll Be • This role is based in New York, NY • We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! There will be some in person meetings, but still allows for flexibility to work from home The United States base range for this position is $155,694-$222,420, plus equity (plus bonus or commission.
