BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY Examine, diagnose and provide clinical services for patients related to auditory dysfunction. CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Select, administer and interpret appropriate diagnostic and/or clinical procedures to provide for differential diagnosis of patients' hearing status and any associated speech and/or language problem. • Coordinate diagnostic information results with specialists from other professions. • Initiate and maintain functional and comprehensive patient records. • Perform appropriate procedures for selection and use of amplification devices for patients. • Plan, direct, conduct or participate in programs including counseling, guidance and clinical work regarding appropriate modes of patient communication. • Predict potential benefit to patients from use of amplification and/or clinical work. • Provide information to other professionals regarding status and program needs of patients in order to facilitate continuity of services. • Counsel patients, families and others concerning the management of the patient's hearing disorder and associated speech and/or language problems, including the social and psychological problems associated with that hearing disorder. • Assist in the instruction of graduate students in speech pathology and audiology. • Instruct individuals in techniques and procedures utilized by audiologists in diagnosis and remediation of communication disorders. • Train, schedule, assign and evaluate work of support staff. • Participate in service training programs in audiology and/or related professions. • Participate in research to develop diagnostic and remedial techniques and procedures for communication disorders and other research pertaining to communication processes. • Assist with preparation of research proposals and grant requests. • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public. The department intends to hire for one position as either an Audiologist I, requisition 25004263 or Audiologist II, requisition 25004264, based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. QUALIFICATIONS • A Master's degree in Audiology is required. • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology issued by the American Boards of Examiners in Speech Pathology and Audiology of the American Speech and Hearing Association or qualifications equivalent to such certification is required. An individual is considered to possess such equivalent qualifications if s/he meets the academic, practicum and supervised experience requirements for certification and has achieved an acceptable score on the National Examination in Audiology. • An Audiology license from the State of Iowa or the ability to acquire one is required. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. • Some (6 months - 1 year) experience in Audiology is desirable.
