Backend Engineer + AI Automation (n8n) for Intelligent Workflow Platform - Contract to Hire
We’re looking for a Backend Engineer with hands-on AI automation experience using n8n to help build a production-ready intelligent workflow platform. This is not a low-code or demo project. We need someone who is comfortable designing backend systems, integrating AI decision-making, and orchestrating workflows that run reliably in real-world conditions. What You’ll Do -Design and build backend APIs using Node.js (Express/Fastify) or Python (FastAPI) -Create and maintain AI-powered workflows in n8n -Integrate LLMs (OpenAI / Anthropic / Gemini) for reasoning, classification, and task execution -Connect backend services with databases and third-party APIs -Design clean, reliable handoffs between backend services and n8n workflows -Implement authentication, logging, retries, and error handling -Debug and improve workflows based on real execution failures -Document workflows, APIs, and deployment setup What We’re Looking For -Strong backend engineering experience (APIs, async systems, system design) -Proven n8n experience in production (not just experiments) -Experience building AI-powered automation systems -Comfortable working with real constraints, failures, and edge cases -Able to think in terms of scalable, maintainable architecture Nice to Have -RAG systems or vector databases (Pinecone, Qdrant, Weaviate) -Multi-agent or stateful AI workflows -Background jobs, queues, schedulers -SaaS backend experience -Security and access control design Deliverables -Backend services integrated with n8n -AI-driven workflows with documentation -Clean API contracts -Deployment and environment setup guidance Apply tot his job
