Backend Software Engineer, AI Document Generation (All Levels)

The Backend Software Engineer will contribute to the development of AI-native workflows and enhance the document generation capabilities of EvenUp's products, ultimately improving outcomes for clients in personal injury cases. Responsibilities Product Development for AI-Native Workflows: Contribute to end-to-end AI workflows by integrating traditional SaaS with AI applications, and rapidly prototyping zero-to-one features for customer needs, all while balancing innovation with pragmatism Cross-functional Work: Collaborate with our founders, product managers, and designers to brainstorm, scope, and realize new features Architecture & Engineering Excellence: Establish best practices for architecture, coding, and delivery while scoping, leading, and building user-facing experiences, services, APIs, and systems Code Quality & Security: Deliver secure, compliant code for sensitive data, ensuring quality through testing, reviews, and standards adherence while monitoring, debugging, and optimizing performance across the stack Mentorship & Team Growth: Mentor team members by providing feedback on code and design, while actively contributing to team culture, retrospectives, and continuous improvement efforts Operational Responsibilities: Handle on-call responsibilities to resolve issues and reduce toil, while documenting processes to ensure alignment with company and industry standards Skills Extensive experience in building frameworks, libraries, and distributed systems with an eye for reliability, observability, and performance Proven proficiency in software development, with hands-on experience in Python or other programming languages such as Go, Java, Node.js or C++ Ability to craft and deliver high-quality software solutions, including production-ready code, RESTful APIs, and managing infrastructure to industry standards Track record of successfully delivering complex projects with clear, structured thinking and leadership from concept to deployment Experience working in dynamic, fast-paced environments, such as startups, thriving in collaborative, growth-oriented settings Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams from diverse backgrounds Strong ownership and personal accountability which are driven by your problem-solving skills, creativity, and initiative in driving projects to completion Experience in AI, legal tech, or social impact projects Benefits Choice of medical, dental, and vision insurance plans for you and your family Additional insurance coverage options for life, accident, or critical illness Flexible paid time off, sick leave, short-term and long-term disability 10 US observed holidays, and Canadian statutory holidays by province A home office stipend 401(k) for US-based employees and RRSP for Canada-based employees Paid parental leave A local in-person meet-up program Hubs in San Francisco and Toronto Company Overview EvenUp is the leading AI platform for personal injury law.
