Civil/Environmental Engineer I ( REMOTE ) - Michael Baker International - Virginia Beach, VA - work from home job Company: Michael Baker International Job description: Description The Civil and Environmental Practice seeks an enthusiastic and motivated Civil or Environmental Engineer to join our growing Environmental Compliance Team in Virginia Beach, VA. Responsibilities will include planning, executing, and documenting environmental engineering and compliance for primarily Federal and Department of Defense clients such as the US Navy, the US Marine Corps, the US Army Corps of Engineers and the US Coast Guard located across the US and abroad. The project work focusses on compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations to meet various regulatory programs with a focus on petroleum storage tank (PST) and assets compliance ( including Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC Plans); oil spill preparedness and planning compliance (including facility response plans or FRPs); in addition hazardous material management (including solid waste, hazardous waste, Pollution Prevention (P2), Emergency Planning and Community Right To Know (EPCRA), asbestos and lead based paint abatement). In addition, responsibilities of this position could include involvement in projects addressing compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Clean Air Act (CAA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) as well as sustainability services including Environmental Management Systems (EMS). You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary, collaborative engineering team, with staff located in the Virginia Beach office and in other Michael Baker offices located across the United States (US). Essential Duties and Responsibilities With minimal supervision: • Supports a Project Team of engineers in planning, executing, and documenting environmental engineering projects. • Prepares engineering studies supporting environmental engineering, planning, compliance, and site evaluations. • Manages projects as the project engineer. • Evaluates and develops technical scopes of work and cost estimates for unique project requirements. • Evaluates the applicability of state and federal environmental regulations. • Prepares documents for regulatory agencies to obtain required permits. • Communicates with Project Team on technical and administrative requirements. • Schedules and attends internal meetings as necessary and documents key decisions and action items. • Visits to project sites to collect and document environmental site conditions, work progress and data. • Completes project technical requirements within established budgets and schedules. • Performs quality assurance activities. • Completes continuing education and training to maintain professional expertise and credentials. PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor of Science in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related engineering field from an accredited university. • 4-6 years of environmental engineering/compliance experience. • Professional Engineer (PE) License required (or ability to sit for the exam within 6 months) • Experience in Department of Defense civil and environmental engineering and/or environmental compliance (including SPCC and FRP projects) is preferred. • Environmental certifications in tank inspections, compliance evaluations, etc. are a plus. • Excellent technical writing and communications skills. Excellent skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat. Proficient skills in AutoCAD will also be considered. • Site visits may require the ability to traverse uneven terrain wearing PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) and carrying light equipment necessary for data collection and reporting. • Travel is required for this position and the individual must be legally authorized to work in the U.S., with a valid U.S. passport and eligible for security clearance. Travel requirements include domestic destination and may include international destinations. The approximate compensation range for this position is 72K to 99K. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.
