Compliance Specialist, Street Medicine (Remote, California)

At Healthcare in Action, we serve patients experiencing homelessness through an innovative “street medicine” approach by contracting with Medicare and Medicaid health plans as well as hospitals and health systems. Street medicine entails using a medically equipped van to deliver medical care directly to people experiencing homelessness in locations such as parking lots, encampments, and parks. The Compliance Specialist, Street Medicine will be responsible for ensuring that the organization is following all relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies. This role will conduct audits, develop and implement compliance programs, provide training to staff, investigate any potential violations, and recommend process improvements as necessary to achieve and maintain compliant performance. Compliance specialists play a crucial role in helping organizations maintain ethical standards and avoid legal issues. This role is remote, but incumbent must be located in California. Monday-Friday 8-4:30 or 8:30-5 schedule. Responsibilities include: • Regularly monitor and review company operations to ensure adherence to legal, regulatory, and internal compliance standards. Prepare and submit compliance reports to senior management and regulatory bodies, highlighting any areas of concern and recommended actions. Track and document compliance activities and outcomes to maintain a comprehensive record of the organization's compliance efforts. • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of compliance policies and procedures. Ensure that all employees are aware of and understand the compliance policies and procedures. Provide guidance and support to employees and departments to help them comply with regulatory requirements. • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential compliance vulnerabilities and threats. Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to prevent or minimize compliance issues. Stay updated on regulatory changes and industry trends to proactively adjust risk management practices. • Communicate key actions and deliverables to applicable business areas. Track and record responses from accountable area(s) and follow-up to ensure requestor receive deliverables on schedule. • Provide recommendations on ways to increase effectiveness and improve performance with meeting regulatory requirements. • Coordinate communications and audits with delegated entities and internal business departments. • Coordinates the preparation and completion of compliance program materials, documents, presentations, and department activities. • Analyze and interpret various audits, instructions, requests and results, and distribute to operational departments. • Assist with drafting new policies and updating existing policies as required to ensure regulatory compliance, identifying areas of risk and recommending improvements. • Manage time efficiently to meet expected deadlines and maintain productivity in compliance and audit activities. • We seek Rebels who are curious about AI and its power to transform how we operate and serve our members. • All other duties as assigned. Qualifications and experience: • Associate's degree or equivalent experience in healthcare compliance/quality, required. • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience equivalent experience in healthcare compliance/quality, preferred. • Minimum of 2 years of experience in healthcare compliance/quality, required. • Must be located in California. • Strong knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards, with the ability to stay current on changes and updates. • Exceptional attention to detail to accurately monitor and report on compliance activities, ensuring all documentation is thorough and precise. • Effective communication skills to clearly explain compliance requirements and issues to various stakeholders, and strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain collaborative relationships across departments • Ability to work effectively and participate in a team environment. • Ability to work independently, organize workflow, adhere to timelines and function in a complex, fast paced environment. • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet regulatory guidelines. • Ability to maintain strong working relationships with senior and mid-level management and facilitate open communication. • Basic knowledge of Medicare/Medi-Cal Plans and associated regulations is highly preferred.
