Data Analyst III

The Data Analyst III role involves conducting detailed data analysis and research, preparing technical reports, and implementing data quality measures under general supervision. Responsibilities Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned Analyzes data using standard statistical tools, methods, and techniques; and interprets results to identify significant differences in data. Consults with Provider Finance Staff to identify user needs when verifying source data. Compiles and queries data. Identifies and interprets data patterns and trends and assesses data quality. Cleans and prunes data to discard irrelevant information. (30%) Prepares concise, comprehensive technical reports to present and interpret data, identify alternatives, and make and justify recommendations on data revisions. Assists in defining, developing, and implementing data standards. Assists in developing data quality measures, analyzing data quality results, and implementing necessary changes to ensure data quality improvement. Writes policies and procedures to document recommended approaches to ensure data validity and quality. (20%) Prepares concise, comprehensive technical reports to present and interpret data, identify alternatives, and make and justify recommendations on data revisions. Assists in defining, developing, and implementing data standards. (15%) May develop and implement databases, data collection systems, data analytics, and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality. (15%) May establish and maintain standard work procedures governing the appropriate use of data. This includes documentation of work procedures to ensure consistency in evaluation and improved quality of data products. (15%) Performs related work as assigned. (5%) Skills At least one year of experience in data analysis work Knowledge of statistics and analyzing data sets; of running queries, report writing, and presenting findings; of data models, database design development, data mining, and segmentation techniques; and of record keeping, including security procedures for handling, protecting, and distributing confidential data Skill in the use of a computer and applicable software, in analyzing problems and devising effective solutions, in conducting data searches, in evaluating and translating large amounts of data, and in critical thinking Ability to compile, review, and analyze data; to prepare reports; to maintain accuracy and attention to detail; and to communicate effectively Knowledge of Medical claims data and/or Medicaid claims data and cost reports preferred Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business administration, finance, accounting, economics, insurance, or a related field is preferred Experience with agency programs, policies, and procedures is preferred Benefits 100% paid employee health insurance for full-time eligible employees Defined benefit pension plan Generous time off benefits Numerous opportunities for career advancement Company Overview Texas Health and Human Services is an agency that focuses on improving health, safety and well-being.
