The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is dedicated to environmental stewardship for the health of North Carolinians. The Engineer I position involves implementing the NPDES permitting program for municipal wastewater discharges and requires proficiency in data analysis and effective communication of regulatory information. Responsibilities Develop/issue NPDES wastewater permits for moderately complex facilities Perform engineering review of proposed wastewater alternatives May perform water quality modeling Peer Review of other Engineer's draft permits Attend public hearings on permit issues and respond to questions from general public and regulated community Assist supervisor/unit with special projects Skills Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience Proficiency with computers, word processing software, and spreadsheets Ability to comprehend and properly interpret regulatory documents Ability to perform detailed review and analysis of documents and datasets Ability to evaluate data and identify relationships and trends conducive to system evaluation and improvement Ability to effectively communicate regulatory and technical information to a range of audiences NC Driver's License required Professional Engineer licensure/Engineer Intern certification is not required but is considered an asset Benefits Eligibility for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program Hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workdays Company Overview The N.C.
