The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is committed to providing science-based environmental stewardship for the health and prosperity of North Carolinians. The Engineer I will be responsible for reviewing post-construction stormwater permit applications and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Responsibilities Review of post-construction stormwater permit applications (primarily low density and less complex high density projects) for new and existing residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities that are subject to the state stormwater program and has the authority to approve and issue stormwater permits when engineering plans are compliant with state and federal stormwater rules The employee would perform numerous engineering calculations with a high degree of accuracy and evaluates engineering plans and specifications Decisions with respect to stormwater management affect many development projects annually, have cost implications for the development community, and may impact the water quality standards Communicate effectively with applicants, consultants, local governments, general public, etc. regarding applicable rules, regulations, and procedures Update and maintain electronic permit databases in a timely manner Coordinate reviews and permitting with higher level post-construction stormwater engineers and/or manager as needed Attend and/or participate in relevant trainings/workshops to enhance knowledgebase Skills Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors Benefits Eligibility for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program Hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workdays Company Overview The N.C.
