Engineering Manager
Smalls are looking for an Engineering Manager who is equally passionate about leading people and building great software. In this role, you’ll be both a mentor and a maker—helping your team grow, shaping the culture of engineering, and directly contributing to the architecture and code that power our systems. What You'll Do: Lead, mentor, hire and grow a small team of software engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, growth and learning. Partner with product and design to align engineering priorities with business goals. Define and evolve a technical roadmap with the ability to articulate why to the business. Evaluate our current architecture, system design, tools and influence the set-up for the next stage of growth for the organization. Ensure reliability, scalability, and performance monitoring. Contribute directly to the codebase (~60% of your time), setting the standard for quality and craftsmanship. Establish team rituals - reviews, refinement, incident management, on-call duty, retros—that make us stronger and faster together. What we'll love about you: 2+ years of engineering leadership/management experience. Prior experience working as a Sr. Engineer/Staff engineer with deep technical expertise and architectural experience. A player-coach: skilled at balancing IC work with leadership responsibilities. Experienced in building strong engineering cultures and improving teams. Strong communicator who can bridge technical and business discussions. Pragmatic and product-driven—you know when to move fast and when to build for the long term. Huge plus: experience working on DTC and subscription services. Huge plus: experience with React, React router (SSR), and Ruby on Rails. Huge plus: experience with tools like Heroku, Postgres, Shopify, Stripe, and Contentful.
