Position Overview The Environment Artist will be responsible for modeling, texturing, and lighting compelling 3D environments and props for the wildly successful co-op horror game, Backrooms: Escape Together. This role places a strong emphasis on the creation of procedural and modular environments, leveraging both artistic vision and technical implementation to breakdown common environments found in real-life into a set of modular art pieces. The ideal candidate has a strong artistic sensibility, applied expertise in real-time rendering and procedural generational workflows, and a deep understanding of how liminal atmospheres and space contribute to player immersion. You will work closely with designers and engineers to ensure all environments support both gameplay functionality and artistic vision. About Triiodide Studios Our mission is to create the best multiplayer experiences possible. We believe creating long-lasting memories that players can share with their friends or strangers takes precedence above all else. Our current game, Backrooms: Escape Together, is a continuously updated, level-based co-op horror inspired by the online lore of the Backrooms. Backrooms: Escape Together regularly sits in the top 250 of Steam’s best-selling titles, and we are scaling up our art team to meet player demand. Responsibilities • Create environment assets with lifelike realism optimized for Unreal Engine 5 real-time performance (Nanite, Lumen, Virtual Shadow Maps, Hardware Raytracing) • Breakdown real-life liminal spaces into modular assets that can be constructed to create explorable in-game environments. • Build modular kits, trim sheets, decals, and master materials designed for procedural placement and efficient world-building. • Implement lighting and material setups that reinforce the game’s mood and tone. • Collaborate with design and technical teams to ensure environmental assets meet gameplay and performance requirements. • Participate in internal art reviews and provide constructive feedback to maintain consistency across the project. • Ensure all work aligns with the project’s established visual and technical guidelines. Required Qualifications • 3+ years of professional experience as an Environment Artist in game development. • Strong portfolio demonstrating realistic or atmospheric 3D environments, including examples of procedural generation or tool-assisted world-building. • Proficiency with Unreal Engine 5, Substance 3D Painter/Designer, Maya or Blender, and Photoshop. • Expertise in creating assets utilizing Nanite, Virtual Textures, and Hardware Raytracing • Experience with modular asset workflows and real-time performance optimization. • Strong grasp of composition, lighting, scale, and color theory. • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset. • Passion for environmental storytelling and atmospheric world-building.
