Key Responsibilities As an Adjunct Faculty member, you will be responsible for: Teaching college-level and pre-college level English Composition courses and English-related courses Creating an optimum learning environment that supports student success Responding to student needs and managing effective instructional activities Demonstrating professionalism and developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff Supporting college administrative requirements and maintaining competency in your instructional field Teaching Responsibilities Develops a syllabus for the class using the assigned syllabus shell Designs an evaluation procedure that falls within the parameters of the syllabus shell Creates a calendar of assignments in accordance with the course outline Prepares lesson plans and conducts classes during the scheduled times using the Department-approved text(s) Follows Department guidelines for course content and best practices Meets classes on all scheduled dates during the assigned semester Meets classes on time and holds classes for their fully allotted time Uses appropriate classroom management techniques and technology Assessment and Evaluation Creates and evaluates assignments, evaluative measures, and activities appropriate to the class Assigns grades to student work and returns graded assignments in a timely manner Maintains accurate and thorough records of student attendance and grades Reports student attendance and grades as required Communication and Support Uses the College's course management system for assigned courses and department matters Communicates effectively with students, faculty, and staff through various channels Is available to meet with students outside of class, if necessary Supports the College Mission, Vision, and Core Values Requirements and Qualifications Essential Qualifications Master's degree in English or Fine Arts with 18 graduate hours directly related to composition Understanding of process-based writing and adult learning theory Familiarity with current pedagogical strategies that enhance critical thinking Ability to work with a diverse student population and effectively communicate with students Ability to work in a collaborative environment and enhance instruction with technology Preferred Qualifications Experience in teaching English Composition and related courses Familiarity with online teaching platforms and course management systems Experience with student assessment and evaluation What We Offer As an adjunct faculty member at Owens Community College, you can expect: A competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package The freedom and flexibility of a remote role Opportunities for professional growth and development A supportive and collaborative work environment The chance to make a positive impact on student success and learning Why Join Our Team?
