Key Responsibilities Plan, organize, and present instruction and instructional environments that promote student learning and academic achievement Manage instructional time effectively, ensuring that students are engaged and on task throughout the lesson Establish and maintain a positive and respectful classroom environment, promoting social responsibility and emotional intelligence Develop and implement instructional plans that align with school and system-wide curricular goals, using diagnostic information to inform instruction Monitor student progress, providing feedback and support to ensure that all students meet their full potential Collaborate with colleagues and other stakeholders to promote a culture of academic excellence and continuous improvement Participate in professional development opportunities, staying up-to-date with best practices in science education and instructional design Essential Qualifications Valid NC Teaching Licensure in Science Education Bachelor's degree in Science Education or a related field from an accredited college or university Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience, preferably in a public school setting Strong knowledge of scientific principles and concepts, including biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, and parents Ability to design and implement engaging and effective lesson plans, using a variety of instructional strategies and technologies Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Science Education or a related field Experience with project-based learning, STEM education, and interdisciplinary instruction Knowledge of educational technology, including learning management systems and online resources Experience with diverse student populations, including English language learners and students with special needs Leadership experience, including department chair, team leader, or mentor teacher roles Skills and Competencies Strong subject matter knowledge and pedagogical skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to design and implement engaging and effective lesson plans Strong organizational and time management skills Ability to work effectively in a team environment Commitment to ongoing professional development and growth Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At Asheville City Schools, we are committed to supporting the professional growth and development of our teachers.
