Job Summary We are seeking an experienced and passionate Spanish teacher to join our Modern and Classical Languages department. As a Spanish teacher at Bishop McNamara High School, you will be part of a collaborative and experienced team of educators who are dedicated to providing a world-class education to our students. About the Modern & Classical Language Department Our Modern and Classical Language department is dedicated to teaching world languages through a Communicative Language Teaching philosophy, allowing students to process language as naturally as possible. Our goals are aligned with those of the American Council on Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), and we focus on culture to help students not only learn another language but also understand and respect the people who are native speakers of the language. Our students participate in Le Grand Concours or the National Spanish Exam, respectively, to demonstrate their language proficiency and cultural knowledge. Key Responsibilities Teach content and skills in Spanish utilizing designated curriculum and other appropriate learning activities. Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the school's basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course standards. Provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students. Evaluate academic and social growth of students, prepare report cards, and keep appropriate records. Evaluate each student's progress in meeting the course standards. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment. Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning, health, and attitude problems. Communicate with parents and school counselors on student progress. Supervise students in assigned out-of-classroom activities during the working day. Participate in faculty meetings. Administer testing in accordance with testing practices. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Demonstrate some knowledge of the principles and methodologies of effective teaching. Experience using technology to extend and enhance learning, such as Desmos or G Suite for Education (Google Apps) in a 1:1 BYOD environment. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and parents. Minimum Qualifications Fluent in the target language (Spanish). Bachelor's or Master's degree in Spanish language, language education, or related field. Commitment to development of the whole student, in alignment with the Holy Cross tradition of education. Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching in a high school, with demonstrated expertise in differentiated instruction. Experience using technology to extend and enhance learning, with expertise in synchronous and asynchronous remote instruction.
