Job Overview The Assistant Program Coordinator will play a vital role in coordinating an academic support program designed to promote positive student-athlete development and growth. This position requires a caring and responsible individual who can provide academic and social-emotional support, monitor student progress, and collaborate with teachers, guidance counselors, coaches, athletic directors, and school administrators to ensure student-athletes receive the support they need to succeed. The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with excellent communication and organizational skills, able to work effectively with diverse student populations and build strong relationships with stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Act as a mentor to provide academic and social-emotional support to student-athletes, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. Monitor student progress in academic classes, working with teachers and guidance counselors to provide targeted interventions through tutoring and collecting data to evaluate the efficacy of these interventions. Communicate with parents, coaches, and the Athletic Director regarding student-athlete attendance and academic progress throughout each marking period. Build a positive and inclusive learning environment where student-athletes feel encouraged to work towards their academic goals during unstructured time. Demonstrate experience in working with high school-aged students, understanding the challenges and opportunities of working with diverse student populations with limited resources. Utilize basic computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook, PowerSchool, and Facebook, to support program operations and communication. Essential Qualifications Prior tutoring and/or teaching experience, preferably with high school-aged students. Experience working with young people, particularly in an educational or athletic setting. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to motivate and encourage students to improve their academic performance. Ability to work during and after the school day, including some evenings, with flexibility to accommodate the needs of student-athletes and program stakeholders. Some college preferred, with a focus on education, psychology, or a related field. Preferred Qualifications Spanish, Haitian, or French oral proficiency, reflecting the diverse linguistic backgrounds of our student population. Experience with data collection and analysis, using tools like Excel or specialized software to evaluate program efficacy and inform interventions. Familiarity with athletic programs and the unique challenges faced by student-athletes in balancing academic and athletic responsibilities.
