Job Overview and Responsibilities As an Aviation Engineer with Southwest Airlines, you will play a critical role in maintaining our fleet of aircraft, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and driving continuous improvement in our maintenance operations. Your key responsibilities will include: Assessing and handling manufacturer's service documents, regulatory requirements, and other technical documentation to ensure compliance and accuracy Creating and validating in-house repairs and modifications for implementation into our maintenance program Developing and implementing reliability enhancements through research, root cause analysis, and corrective action plans Collaborating with various departments, such as Planning, Supply Chain, Quality, and Production, to develop project performance plans and drive results Investigating and resolving in-service issues, performing cost/benefit analyses, and developing engineering documentation to support the resolution of technical issues Participating in and leading activities related to OEM, Supplemental Type Certificate Holder, and PMA products Performing other duties as directed by management, including special projects and initiatives Essential Qualifications and Skills To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications and skills: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline Strong knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), with a focus on Part 25 requirements and Part 121 operations Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software and other technical tools Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply engineering principles and techniques to resolve complex technical issues Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders Ability to work under tight deadlines, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously Strong business acumen, with experience in cost/benefit analysis and decision-making Preferred Qualifications and Certifications While not required, the following preferred qualifications and certifications will be considered an asset: FAA Airframe and Powerplant license Experience with aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operations Knowledge of industry-specific software and systems, such as maintenance management systems and technical documentation tools Lean or Six Sigma certification, or experience with continuous improvement methodologies Project management certification, such as PMP or Agile Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At Southwest Airlines, we are committed to the growth and development of our employees.
