Job Overview As a 988 Chat & Text Counselor at blithequark, you will play a critical role in providing crisis intervention, emotional support, and resources to help-seekers through our Crisis Chat and Text services. Operating in a fully remote capacity, you will be part of a team that delivers high-quality, compassionate support during moments of crisis, with a focus on maintaining the highest standards of care and guidance. Key Responsibilities Provide crisis-counseling services via chat and text, offering emotional support and resources to help-seekers in need. Complete risk assessments, safety planning, de-escalation, and follow-up with Chat/Text visitors, ensuring that all interactions are handled with care and compassion. Serve as a mandated reporter in cases of suspected abuse or neglect, adhering to all relevant protocols and procedures. Provide information and referrals to visitors as appropriate, drawing on a deep knowledge of resources and support services. Maintain accurate and detailed chat/text reports, completing documentation in real-time to ensure seamless continuity of care. Meet productivity standards, completing an average of 1.5 chats/texts per hour, while maintaining the highest standards of quality and compassion. Fulfill continuing education requirements, staying up-to-date with the latest research, best practices, and industry developments. Assist in the training process of new counselors, sharing expertise and experience to support the growth and development of the team. Participate in community outreach events, such as resource tables and presentations on suicide prevention, helping to raise awareness and promote the services of blithequark. Attend routinely scheduled meetings for the Suicide Prevention Center, contributing to the ongoing development and improvement of services. Essential Qualifications Possess a high school diploma or equivalent, with a strong foundation in education and a commitment to ongoing learning. Be at least 18 years of age, with a mature and empathetic approach to supporting individuals in crisis. Have high-speed internet with an active Ethernet connection, and a quiet, confidential workspace that supports focused and compassionate work. Be empathetic, flexible, and adaptable, with a strong ability to respond to varying situations and priorities. Have open availability and flexibility to work within the Chat/Text program’s operating hours, including weekends and holidays, with a commitment to reliability and adherence to schedules. Complete yearly trainings as required by Lifeline, staying up-to-date with the latest protocols and procedures. Have knowledge of all job-specific skills, including risk assessment, data collection, and chat/text triage, with a strong foundation in crisis intervention and support.
