About the Role We are seeking highly skilled and motivated Distributed Systems Engineers to join our Data Platform team. We are open to remote applicants, believing that talent and capability can come from anywhere in the U.S. Focus in Data Infrastructure Groups Our Data Infrastructure Groups are the backbone of our operations, enabling us to leverage data to drive happiness and satisfaction among our users. We provide integrated data platforms and tools for various business functions, ensuring that our data is used effectively, securely, and efficiently. The groups within Data Infrastructure include: Database Access Platform : This team builds and operates a flexible query gateway that facilitates data abstractions to work at sub-millisecond latencies, allowing blithequark microservices to more easily store, consume, and manage their data. Data Platform Infrastructure : Acting as a platform for our own data platforms, this group enables blithequark to rapidly simplify the provision of cutting-edge data and analytics systems to the rest of the organization without building custom platforms for each new system. Data Ingestion and Processing : Offers a preoccupied self-service cleared pathway item to enable varied client personas across blithequark to meet their low-latency Data Ingestion and Processing needs. Big Data Figure : Responsible for providing the cloud-native platform for distributed data processing at blithequark, supporting technologies like Spark, Presto/Trino, Druid, and distributed database systems. Big Data Solution : Offers the platform for designing, scheduling, and executing big data jobs and workflows in a self-serve way, incorporating essential services that have all ETL and ML jobs running on Big Data Systems at blithequark. Responsibilities As a Distributed Systems Engineer, your key responsibilities will include: Designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems and applications that meet the evolving needs of our global user base. Architecting and developing a robust, scalable, and highly available distributed infrastructure that supports our data-driven decision-making processes. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including engineers, product managers, and technical program managers, to drive projects forward and ensure alignment with company goals. Contributing to and participating in open-source communities, sharing our experiences and learning from others to continuously improve our systems and technologies. Ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of our distributed systems, with a focus on automation, scalability, and efficiency. Qualifications and Skills To be successful in this role, you should have: 2+ years of experience in building large-scale distributed systems components or applications. Proficiency in the design and development of RESTful web services. Experience in building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed systems. Knowledge of Java or other object-oriented programming languages. Familiarity with multi-threading and its challenges. A BS in Computer Science or a related field.
