Job Overview We are seeking an experienced and skilled Educational Assistant, Special Education to join our team at Edison Elementary. As an Educational Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with significant academic, behavioral, and emotional needs. You will work closely with our teachers and other educational staff to develop and implement individualized educational plans, provide instructional support, and help students achieve their full potential. Key Responsibilities Assist teachers in planning and implementing educational and behavioral management programs for students with diverse needs Provide one-to-one and small group instruction to students, using standardized lessons and materials Monitor student progress, record grades, and prepare reports on student behavior and academic achievement Develop and maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment, promoting social and academic growth for all students Collaborate with teachers, other educational assistants, and support staff to ensure a cohesive and effective educational program Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge in special education and instructional support Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications: Completion of at least two years of post-secondary study, consisting of 72 credit hours, or an associate's or higher degree Previous experience working with students with diverse needs, preferably in an elementary education setting Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a high level of communication skills and adaptability Knowledge of instructional techniques, behavior management, and modification methods Basic clerical skills, including typing, data entry, and record-keeping Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion Preferred Qualifications While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable: Bilingual proficiency and/or multicultural experience Previous training in special education, instructional techniques, and behavior management Experience working with students with significant academic, behavioral, and emotional needs Ability to use technology, including computer systems, software, and educational applications Knowledge of curriculum development, instructional design, and assessment strategies Skills and Competencies To excel in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and competencies: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and other staff Patience, empathy, and understanding, with a commitment to supporting students with diverse needs Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, priorities, and deadlines Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion Career Growth and Development We are committed to supporting the ongoing growth and development of our staff.
