Why You'll Love This Role As a Team Lead, IT Data Governance, you'll have a direct impact on American Airlines' data management practices, driving the development and implementation of data governance capabilities that enable our organization to make informed decisions. You'll be an integral part of our team, working closely with stakeholders to promote data quality, metadata management, and data stewardship. You'll lead the creation, support, and rollout of American's Data Governance Capabilities, ensuring the effective use of data across the organization. You'll be responsible for developing and maintaining work processes, standards, procedures, and guidelines for Data Governance. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to enable Data Governance and data quality standards. You'll work with our Data Governance Executive Board to define and monitor key metrics and KPIs for Data Governance. You'll research, review, and recommend new software solutions to enhance Data Governance capabilities. Key Responsibilities Lead the development and implementation of Data Governance Capabilities, including Data Education, Data Stewardship, Data Quality, Metadata Management, Master Data Management, and Data as a Resource. Collaborate with stakeholders to promote Data Governance and data quality standards across the organization. Develop and maintain work processes, standards, procedures, and guidelines for Data Governance. Work with the Data Governance Executive Board to define and monitor key metrics and KPIs for Data Governance. Research, review, and recommend new software solutions to enhance Data Governance capabilities. Automate Data Governance processes using market-leading data management tools. Act as the Product Owner for Data Governance products and be the representative for the Data Governance team. Essential Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as Computer Science, Information Technology, or Business Administration. At least 5 years of experience in Data Analysis and/or Data Management. Experience implementing Data Governance capabilities in an organization. Experience developing and tracking metrics to measure the adoption and success of data management capabilities. Experience working with Business Intelligence tools, Data Lakes, and Data Warehouses. Experience working with sensitive data (e.g., PII, SPII, PHI) and relevant regulatory policies (e.g., GDPR, CCPA). Experience managing Data Quality and Observability tools. Preferred Qualifications Change management experience, including identifying downstream data impacts for regulatory requirements and reporting. Experience automating data management processes/workflows using market-leading data management tools. Detailed experience delivering data management artifacts, such as data dictionaries, metadata, lineage, data movement controls, and data element-level data quality controls. Experience as a Data Steward, acting as a data expert, reviewing, and approving data access, and serving as a product owner for a data product or data domain. Experience working in Agile and DevOps environments. Aviation, Avionics, Travel, or Hospitality experience. Skills, Licenses, and Certifications Working knowledge of SQL. Strong understanding of Data and Analytics concepts. Data Governance certifications, such as CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) or DGSP (Data Governance and Stewardship Professional). Ability to bridge the communication gap by translating technical data management concepts to the Business. Ability to be flexible in an evolving work model and adapt to changing priorities. Ability to manage projects and teams from ideation through execution.
