We are seeking experienced and motivated individuals to join our team as Ramp Agents, where you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient handling of aircraft, cargo, and baggage. Why You'll Love This Job Fleet Service Agents perform the handling of cargo on and off aircraft, trucks, containers, and trailers; shipping cargo among terminals and aircraft; receiving, delivering, weighing, and reporting of cargo in a cargo-specific facility (warehouse) or a cargo bay area. As a Ramp Agent, you will be responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the aircraft handling process are completed safely and efficiently. You will work closely with other teams, including flight crews, ground handlers, and cargo personnel, to ensure that all flights depart on time and that all cargo is handled correctly. Key Responsibilities The following are the primary responsibilities of the job. Management will adjust the job or require other tasks be performed when operationally necessary, noting, of course, any legal obligations including any collective bargaining obligations. Move cargo and baggage of various weights to and from aircraft Drive and operate belt loaders Service aircraft at gates with ground power and cooling Tow and pushback aircraft from gates Service aircraft lavatories and water ports Clean the interior of aircraft when required Position refreshment and baggage trucks around the ramp area Work outside in various weather conditions Work shifts that include irregular and/or extended hours, weekends, and holidays Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Able to lift, load, unload, and transport bags and cargo to/from aircraft, bag trucks, and conveyor lines Basic computer skills and ability to use electronic devices People-oriented and highly enthusiastic, with a positive and helpful attitude Excellent communication skills Valid driver's license as required by local authorities Able to obtain airport authority and/or US Customs security clearances, if applicable Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment drug screen, thorough background check, and/or fingerprinting to meet company and security requirements Able to obtain a fly extension certificate Able to pass the US Postal Service background check Preferred Qualifications While not essential, the following qualifications are preferred: Previous experience in a similar role, such as a ramp agent or cargo handler Knowledge of aircraft handling procedures and safety protocols Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment Ability to speak multiple languages Skills and Competencies To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and competencies: Strong communication and teamwork skills Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment Attention to detail and ability to follow procedures Physical ability to lift, push, and pull heavy objects Ability to work in various weather conditions Basic computer skills and ability to use electronic devices Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At American Airlines, we are committed to the growth and development of our employees.
