About the Role We are seeking an experienced Wireless Systems Specialist (Radio) to join our Wireless Communications Section in Roseburg. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for constructing, installing, maintaining, and repairing diverse wireless two-way radio and microwave network systems for your assigned service area. You will support and coordinate communication systems for customers, including our agency, Oregon State Police, the Fire Marshall's office, and more. This role is similar to radio technician, electronics technician, communications technician, radio service, tower technician, telecommunications specialist, broadcast technologist, radio frequency (RF) signalman, and power systems control craftsman positions. Key Responsibilities Evaluate situations and resolve questions or customer inquiries Install, test, replace, or repair a variety of cable types Review customers' operational needs and requests Identify, prepare, and provide on-site training for customers Manage and coordinate the installation of mobile radio equipment Identify, diagnose, track, and/or report problems and determine repair or replacement priorities Contact multiple equipment vendors to obtain technical information and request repair or upgrades Maintain systems and equipment to ensure peak operating condition Travel to remote mountaintop locations in deep snow and cold weather conditions to repair, install, and provide emergency restoration of equipment or systems Climb and work on towers and antenna structures up to 300 feet above ground and work with high voltages Considerable region-wide or statewide travel in all weather conditions and times of day required Move or lift heavy objects in excess of 70 pounds following safety procedures Essential Qualifications To be considered for this role, you must have: Four (4) years of wireless communications or information systems experience in wireless systems (i.e., two-way radio, microwave) OR an associate's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, OR completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or a related field; AND two (2) years of information systems experience in wireless (i.e., two-way radio, microwave) systems OR a bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field may substitute for all of the above A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record Preferred Qualifications We would like to see: Journeyman level experience in two-way communications maintenance and repairs Proficient in Land Mobile Radio P25 Trunked and Analog Repeater systems operations Experience with Analog and IP Radio Dispatch Console Systems Proven customer service experience and strong verbal and written communications skills Ability to prioritize and set schedules as well as computer literacy Skills and Competencies To be successful in this role, you will need: Strong technical skills in wireless communications and information systems Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong communication and customer service skills Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At ODOT, we are committed to the growth and development of our employees. Compensation, Perks, and Benefits We offer a competitive salary range of $5,291 - $8,001 per month, depending on experience and qualifications.
