GIS Technician - Independent Contractor

Description Civix Consulting Group (Civix), a professional services firm, partners with government and commercial clients to deliver consulting services and technology solutions in disaster recovery, grants management, right of way, and urban planning. Our Metairie based Right of Way Management Division includes right of way agents, abstractors, and certified planners who provide diverse expertise in support of our clients. Civix provides program management, permitting, right of way acquisition, relocation, and land management services for public infrastructure projects. Our mission is to assist our clients in advancing public works projects to construction through pre-planning and right of way acquisitions. GIS Technician - Independent Contractor Position This independent contractor position is responsible for developing accurate project maps and plat maps in an ArcGIS platform, including migrating engineering documents from CAD drawing files and evaluating property legal descriptions. Prospective candidates will be converting designs and drawings received from engineers and designers into working digital GIS formats, as well as identify parcel boundaries and prepare project maps identifying impacted ownership based on proposed right of way boundaries. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Read, understand, and draw legal descriptions in ArcGIS platform Import CAD drawing files from other file formats into ArcGIS platform Analyze and review project maps and compare with DWG, DGN, ESRI shape files and other file types for accuracy Use cartography principles and best practices to prepare project maps showing project features, impacted properties, existing servitudes, and other mappable features Create preliminary and final project maps and tract plat maps in an ArcGIS platform Prepare drawings in accordance with established procedures, practices, and standards Work with Right of Way staff to determine required mapping scope of work based on project needs Provide input, suggestions, and solutions related to preparation of easily readable, understandable maps Conduct quality control review of completed work and, following internal review, ensure that Project Manager's comments have been addressed Requirements Required Skills and Experience: At least one year of experience working in ArcGIS platform and mapping property descriptions Availability for an anticipated 20 to 40 hours monthly Ability to communicate availability and adhere to schedule once established Ability to work independently and in team environment Problem solving, critical thinking skills and strong work ethic Confidentiality and integrity when handling sensitive information Knowledge of working in real world coordinates and projections Knowledge of surveying techniques a plus Ability to track hours and complete and submit a timecard This position is for an independent contractor on an as needed basis. It is preferred that the applicant have their own equipment needed for the position. This is a remote position; however, local candidates are preferred. Apply tot his job
