Graduate Power Systems Engineering (Available 2026)

The Graduate Power Systems Engineering role involves designing and analyzing decarbonized energy systems, assisting in power system studies, and contributing to the design of solar facilities and substations under senior engineering staff guidance. Responsibilities Design and analysis of decarbonized energy systems in projects ranging from supply-side renewable generation to transmission and distribution side infrastructure Assist in the design, analysis, and simulation of electrical power systems, including renewable energy sources (solar, wind, battery storage) Perform various power system studies like short circuit, cable ampacity, Arc flash, Load flow and Energy yield Responsible for the design of solar facilities, substation and BESS under the direction of other senior engineering staff Perform engineering and design calculations such as Grounding Study, Short circuit study, Cable Ampacity study, Load Flow study, ARC Flash and AC/DC voltage drop calculation Ready to learn and deliver various aspects of Solar and substation design such as sizing of DC and AC cable and its layout Ready to learn transmission and distribution line design and associated software like PLSCAD Adhere to instructions and learn from experience and training Assist with the documentation and organization of project data and results Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and regulatory standards related to power systems and renewable energy Skills Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline related to electrical, power system, or renewable energy Basic knowledge of power systems, renewable energy technologies, and energy storage systems Familiarity with software tools such as PSCAD, PSS/E, ETAP, SKM or similar is a plus Basic knowledge of AutoCAD will be a plus The ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work and exceptional organization skills required for our constantly evolving environment Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based working Presentation skills with colleagues and clients at all levels Analytical mindset and/or Strategic thinker Must be eligible to work in the Canada without the need for employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future Master's degree in an engineering discipline related to electrical, power system, or renewable energy FE/EIT certification Scripting/Programming (Python, C++, or other) proficiency and basic knowledge of power system software like ETAP, PSSE Working understanding project development process and project finance Benefits Health and welfare security Paid time off for rest and renewal Global Profit Share Plan (paid bi-annually) GRRSP 5% company match Company Overview Arup is an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers and technical specialists offering a broad range of professional services.
