Grants & Contracts Financial Compliance Analyst - Post-Award, Office of Sponsored Programs (Remote Eligible)

The University of Virginia Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) Post Award Financial Compliance Team seeks a Grants & Contracts Financial Compliance Analyst reporting to the Assistant Director of Financial Compliance, OSP Post-Award. This position is eligible to be remote. The Post-Award Financial Compliance Team manages a variety of financial compliance related to sponsored programs, ensuring adherence to statutory requirements and guidelines mandated by federal, non-federal and state funded sponsoring agencies. This office partners with schools and units to guide the principal investigators to fulfill their responsibilities related to financial compliance of sponsored programs. This position will provide support as a Financial Analyst in the Post-Award Compliance Team, and Financial Compliance Analysts should have a strong focus on financial compliance to minimize the University’s risks related to sponsored awards. The Financial Compliance Analyst participates in implementing and updating systems and applications specifically designed for monitoring financial compliance related to sponsored programs, including distribution and collection of payroll allocation statements. Reviews and analyzes transactions related to cost corrections, sub-awardee invoices, off-cycle employee payments, and others. The position is responsible for monitoring a sub-recipient’s financial performance, including reviewing annual audits and financials of the sub-recipients. The position will assist with the development of various financial reports to review, reconcile and recommend appropriate post-transactional actions. This position will collaborate with all levels of management within the University, analyses, evaluates, summarizes, recommends solutions to comply with sponsor requirements, and addresses other complex financial matters. The ideal candidate must have experience working with complex financial models, as well as a clear understanding of federal and state requirements for financial management of sponsored programs, and requires proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other ad-hoc reporting tools. Responsibilities • Assist in management of post-award financials for both routine and complex sponsored awards including contracts, grants, fellowships, cooperative agreements and subcontracts. • Ensure sponsored research programs comply with University, sponsor, state, and federal regulations; offer guidance to faculty, departmental administrators, and OSP Post-Award group. • Verify and ensure accuracy of financial transactions on sponsored projects. • Assist with resolving financial issues with sponsored programs in coordination with the Sponsors, University administrators, and/or faculty, and recommend appropriate changes. • Provide technical and administrative assistance to faculty and administrators on sponsor regulations. • Work with OSP Post-Award Financial Compliance Assistant Director and Financial Compliance Manager on system upgrades or strategic realignment of the workforce necessary to increase quality and/or efficiency in achieving financial compliance objectives. • Act as a liaison between Office of Sponsored Programs and units concerning financial and accounting functions and ensure good stewardship over the University's sponsored funding. • Provide support to departments on financial management of sponsored programs, and ensure sponsor and University policies and procedures are followed consistently to minimize the University’s risk related to non-compliance with federal requirements. • Other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements Education: Bachelor's degree. Experience: At least three years of relevant experience required. Physical Demands: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. This role does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and/or programs. Preferred Qualifications Education: Degree in a related field of study. Experience: Prior work in Grants and Contracts and/or Research Administration.
