Head of product/privacy legal
About this role Do you want to help build and scale a legal function from the ground up? Have ideas about novel ways to approach product and privacy counseling and AI governance? We are looking for someone to lead our product and privacy legal function who will report directly to our General Counsel. Let’s break the mold together, not be afraid to think differently, and have some fun building something special. ♀️ Your responsibilities • Work closely and integrate deeply with our product, engineering, product marketing, and security teams as we continue to build out Writer’s world-class AI platform • Scale our AI compliance and governance programs to align with current and upcoming regulations along with industry best practices • Develop and implement comprehensive global privacy and data protection strategies and help operationalize those across our business • Work with teams across Writer to design and implement privacy-by-design principles and AI governance best practices • Advise and train internal teams on evolving regulatory and industry standards affecting Writer and our customers • Support our commercial legal team and go-to-market teams as questions arise during contract negotiations • Stay current with evolving laws, policies, and regulations and best practices in the AI landscape and guide our teams on how best to respond • Create thoughtful processes and practical guidance that benefit the entire business (not just legal) as we grow and scale ⭐️ Is this you? • You have: • 10+ years of experience where you’ve spent the majority of time working in-house supporting an enterprise SaaS-based or similar software platform • Deep expertise in global laws and regulations relevant to AI, privacy, and security • Previously led legal product and/or privacy functions and know how to seamlessly integrate yourself into pre-existing product and engineering workflows • Supported the development of AI-powered products and features • A law degree from an accredited law school and admitted to practice law in the U.S. • Prior management experience (a plus) • You are: • A business person first that also happens to be a lawyer • Someone who knows how to bring people along with you • A self-starter, who finds ways to add value without being told • A great communicator • Curious, reliable, comfortable moving uncomfortably fast, and - above all else - have a low ego Benefits & perks (US Full-time employees) • Generous PTO, plus company holidays • Medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your family • Paid parental leave for all parents (12 weeks) • Fertility and family planning support • Early-detection cancer testing through Galleri • Flexible spending account and dependent FSA options • Health savings account for eligible plans with company contribution • Annual work-life stipends for: • Home office setup, cell phone, internet • Wellness stipend for gym, massage/chiropractor, personal training, etc. • Learning and development stipend • Company-wide off-sites and team off-sites • Competitive compensation, company stock options and 401k Writer is an equal-opportunity employer and is committed to diversity.
