Key Responsibilities: Driving Innovation through Data Science Research and develop novel evaluation methods to enhance the quality of Apple user-facing products, collaborating closely with evaluation and experimentation engineering teams to translate your methodological developments into practical technologies. Work with complex, large-scale data sets to solve non-routine analysis problems, applying advanced analytical methods and techniques as needed to drive insights and inform product decisions. Design and implement comprehensive analysis pipelines and visualizations to provide actionable insights at scale, leveraging data from multiple sources, including human annotation data. Develop and maintain a deep understanding of product data structures and metrics, advocating for changes and improvements where necessary to support product development and optimization. Partner with product engineering teams to inform the development of core machine learning algorithms and user experience evaluations, ensuring that data-driven insights drive product decisions. Essential Qualifications: The Skills and Expertise We're Looking For A Master's degree in Statistics, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Operations Research, or a related field, with a strong foundation in statistical data analysis and A/B testing. Experience with using Foundation Models for data science, including prompt engineering and fine-tuning foundational models for specific tasks. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to a range of audiences, from data scientists and engineers to business partners. Strong programming skills, including proficiency in SQL and Python scripting language for data processing and development, with the ability to translate ideas and methods into code and dashboards. Preferred Qualifications: The Ideal Candidate A Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Statistics, Operations Research, or a related field, with a deep understanding of the latest advancements in the field. Experience working with large language models, leveraging LLM for evaluation and product improvement, and a familiarity with the opportunities and challenges presented by these technologies. A background in areas intersecting Responsible AI and Generative AI, with a commitment to developing and applying AI solutions that are transparent, explainable, and fair. Experience working with methods that account for variability in human annotation data, and a understanding of the importance of high-quality data in driving model performance. Some comfort with JavaScript frameworks and the ability to design UI mock-ups, with a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and tools.
