Junior QA Engineer Database & Backend Testing
Job Summary We're seeking for a keen, detail-oriented Junior QA Engineer to join our engineering team and specialize in database and backend testing. You will contribute to data integrity, robust APIs, and dependable backend services by building and executing test cases, validating data flows, and automating checks when possible. This is an entry-level position suitable for someone with SQL expertise, basic API understanding, and a desire to advance in QA engineering. Remote or hybrid roles are offered in the United States. Must be authorized to work in the United States. Responsibilities - creating, maintaining, and running manual and automated tests for backend services and database logic. - Verify data integrity across systems by writing and running SQL queries that check records, joins, stored procedures, and ETL processes. - Test and validate REST/SOAP APIs with tools like Postman, curl, or automated suites. - Collaborate with DevOps to create and manage realistic test data and environments/databases. - Use issue trackers (such as Jira) to report, track, and verify flaws, and collaborate closely with engineers to recreate and fix issues. - Take part in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and release activities to ensure test coverage and quality standards are fulfilled. - Contribute to simple test automation scripts (Python, JavaScript, or Java) and assist with integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines. - Create concise test reports and share risks with stakeholders. - Constantly learn and implement QA best practices to enhance processes. Skills - Excellent SQL abilities (SELECT, JOIN, GROUP BY, subqueries, and basic performance awareness). - Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQL Server. - Basic API testing skills (REST, JSON, status codes) and tools such as Postman or curl. - Familiarity with source control (Git) and basic command line skills. - Experience with a programming or scripting language (e.g., Python, JavaScript, Java, or equivalent). - Experience with bug tracking (Jira) and test case management systems. - Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and excellent written and vocal communication. - Bonus: basic experience with test automation frameworks, CI/CD (Jenkins, GitHub Actions), and knowledge of data pipelines/ETL. Education and Experience - A bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or similar practical experienceor 0-2 years of QA/testing or software development experience. - Internships, coursework, bootcamps, or personal projects that demonstrate SQL, API testing, or scripting are beneficial. - ISTQB or other QA certifications are beneficial but not necessary. Annual Pay Base compensation range: $60,000 to $80,000 per year (depending on region, experience, and function characteristics). Bonuses, shares, or other incentives, if available, may be included in total remuneration.
