About the position Under the general supervision of the Assistant Chief Counsel or an Attorney Supervisor, the Legal Analyst provides assistance to the Chief Counsel, Assistant Chief Counsels, the Special Counsel, and to attorneys in the Legal Unit. The Legal Analyst will perform difficult and complex paralegal duties. This position may be filled in Riverside, San Diego, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Fresno, Sacramento, Oakland, San Jose, or San Francisco. The incumbent will utilize a computer on a consistent basis and may be required to perform tasks that require bending/stooping, occasionally move and transport up to 25 lbs. of case file boxes, reaching/twisting/kneeling, manual dexterity (grasp, handle, keyboarding), pushing, pulling, prolonged sitting, and moving within the office. The incumbent will work in a cubicle setting in an office building with air conditioning and artificial lighting. Office location may be based in a high-rise building. Hybrid office/telework options available in accordance with departmental policy. Responsibilities • Assist Chief Counsel, Assistant Chief Counsels, Special Counsel, and attorneys in the Legal Unit. • Perform difficult and complex paralegal duties. • Ensure application completeness with detailed job descriptions/tasks performed, employment dates, and hours worked. • Prepare reports and summary sheets that set forth the statement of facts, applications of relevant law, and conclusions. • Draft litigation discovery documents, such as interrogatories and motions. Requirements • Successful completion of a paralegal program. • Legal research experience. • Knowledge of basic legal concepts, terminology, principles, and procedures. • Ability to reason logically and accurately analyze situations. • Ability to read and understand statutes.
