We are seeking professional freelance translators, editors, and transcribers to join our team and contribute to our mission. Job Summary We are seeking highly skilled and experienced Legal Translators, Editors, and Transcribers to work on a part-time, remote basis. As a contractor with our organization, you will be responsible for translating, editing, and transcribing legal documents between English and Belarusian. Key Responsibilities Provide accurate translation of documents and/or transcription of audio files involving law enforcement and legal subject matter from foreign languages into English or vice versa. Edit audio transcriptions that include slang and idioms. Edit legal documents, such as affidavits, depositions, etc., while demonstrating a strong command of legal terminology in both English and the target language. Translate and/or transcribe following the government client's style guides and quality standards. Use domain-specific terminology. Review and certify the quality of other translators' work, as needed. Highly proficient in MS Office, with the ability to mirror source document format in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Familiar with the use of CAT tools, such as Trados Studio. Abide by a code of ethics when performing transcription and translation work. Requirements Minimum Qualifications Holds active U.S. Public Trust or higher security clearance or willing to undergo a U.S. government background check to obtain a Public Trust Clearance Moderate Level. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. At least 3 years of experience in translating and/or editing between English and the foreign language. At least 3 years of experience performing audio transcription with the ability to use software to enhance sound and equipment to aid in transcription. Familiar with legal terminology in both English and the target foreign language(s). Proficient in Microsoft Office. Translators and editors must proficiently use CAT tools, such as SDL Trados. Preferred Qualifications Law degree, paralegal certificate, or documented legal translation or transcription experience. Experience with editing documents of audio transcriptions. Active Public Trust or higher security clearance. ATA, NAJIT, or other relevant professional certification. Skills and Competencies To succeed in this role, you will need to possess: Advanced Proficiency (reading/speaking/listening, writing) level 3-plus in English and the foreign target language, as assessed by the International Language Roundtable (ILR) scale. Excellent written communication skills in English and the target foreign language. Strong command of legal terminology in both English and the target language. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously. High level of attention to detail and accuracy. Strong organizational and time management skills.
