About the position The Legislative Analyst position at the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) serves as a departmental analyst in the Office of Public and Governmental Affairs. This role involves providing consultation on initiatives related to education policies and legislation, monitoring state and federal education initiatives, and collaborating with various educational organizations and government agencies. The analyst will assist in legislative issues, analyze education legislation, and communicate findings to support the department's mission of improving public education in Michigan. Responsibilities • Provide consultation on initiatives of the superintendent of public instruction and the department. • Monitor legislation related to education initiatives at both state and federal levels. • Assist the legislation liaison in addressing legislative issues. • Communicate with various MDE offices to review and complete analysis on education legislation assignments. • Collaborate with state and federal associations representing various educational stakeholders. Requirements • Bachelor's degree or higher in any major or equivalent experience in state classified service. • Professional experience in policy analysis or legislative issues is preferred. • Experience working as part of a policy team. • Experience tracking and analyzing legislation. Nice-to-haves • Experience responding to constituent questions or providing constituent services. • Knowledge of state education laws and policies.
