About the Role We are seeking an experienced Life Underwriting Senior Specialist to join our team remotely. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will play a critical role in building relationships with Financial Advisors and internal partners, underwriting Life, Disability, and Long-term Care insurance policies, and ensuring that all quality, service, and production goals are met. Key Responsibilities Field & Client Experience Building Relationships : Develop credible and effective relationships with field partners and customers, responding to case appeals/inquiries, and assisting with placing business. Guidance and Assistance : Provide guidance and assistance to Financial Representatives regarding case underwriting and risk appraisal. Prescreen Inquiries : Handle prescreen inquiries with a high level of accuracy and efficiency. Underwriting Analysis and Appraisal : Analyze and appraise a broad range of insurance applications, approving, classifying, or declining applications with guidance as needed. Independent Review : Independently review applications and adhere to underwriting standards, demonstrating an intermediate level of experience with NM product types and changes. Change Agility : Develop and demonstrate change agility while maintaining mortality and morbidity expectations. Continuous Learning : Demonstrate continuous learning through the early adoption of new ways of underwriting. Reinsurance Programs : Develop proficiency with Reinsurance programs and determining where to best place a case. Active Case Management : Underwrite applications, maintaining industry-leading mortality and morbidity, and provide active case and requirement management. Communication and Negotiation : Communicate and negotiate with Field Partners to explain modified or declined decisions and assist in policy placement. Cross-Functional Leadership Process Improvement : May serve as underwriting representative for improvement in product process with collaboration with functional partners. Project Participation : Participate in other projects as needed. Requirements and Qualifications Essential Qualifications Bachelor's Degree : A bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. Life Underwriting Experience : 1+ year of Life Underwriting experience. Analytical Skills : Analytical skills with the ability to make independent decisions and apply sound judgment in the application of rules. Communication Skills : Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to handle confidential information, exercise tact, diplomacy, and resourcefulness. Computer Skills : Proficient in computer skills and using various software packages. Preferred Qualifications Advanced Underwriting Knowledge : Advanced knowledge of underwriting principles, practices, and regulations. Leadership Experience : Experience in leading or managing teams. What We Offer Compensation and Benefits Competitive Salary : A competitive salary range of $59,150 - $109,850, depending on experience and qualifications. Geographic-Specific Salary Structure : Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure, and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including skills, education, training, credentials, and experience.
