Manager, Communications - Education

About the position The Communications Manager for Education will be skilled in developing and executing strategic communication plans that align with the Mayo Clinic's Bold. Forward. Strategy within the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. This role will focus on promoting the transformative education-related initiatives at Mayo Clinic, enhancing internal and external communication, and fostering collaboration among education leadership, faculty, staff, students, alumni and external partners. The department is responsible to build, grow and protect Mayo Clinic's reputation in a way that shapes the external environment and nurtures the culture to help achieve the mission of the organization. Department functions consist of reputation management including thought leadership and issues/crisis response; client communications and engagement programs; staff engagement; content and channels; government and community engagement; strategy and insights; communications services. The manager understands Mayo Clinic business objectives and priorities and leads the development of strategies to support those objectives. The manager partners with other department leaders to execute operational goals, prioritize work, ensure effective and efficient operations, maintain high standards for service excellence and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement. Develops and maintains relationships with Mayo Clinic executive leadership, staff and members of the local and national government and/or media to advance organizational awareness and achievements. The manager is primarily responsible for the management of staff and/or programs and leveraging functional expertise. May serve enterprise and site leadership needs through participation on committees, task forces and workgroups. Responsibilities • Develop and execute strategic communication plans aligned with Mayo Clinic's strategy. • Promote education-related initiatives at Mayo Clinic. • Enhance internal and external communication. • Foster collaboration among education leadership, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and external partners. • Manage staff and/or programs leveraging functional expertise. • Build and protect Mayo Clinic's reputation. • Partner with department leaders to execute operational goals. • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement. Requirements • Bachelor's degree in a related field. • 5 years of relevant work experience. • Strong written and oral communication skills. • Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly. • Knowledge of communication channels and engagement strategies. • Self-starter with the ability to identify opportunities and resolve challenges. • Demonstrated ability to deliver impactful results. • Strong management skills including strategy, change management, and resource management. • Excellent interpersonal skills including presentation, negotiation, and team facilitation. • Superior project management experience. Nice-to-haves • Experience working in or with higher education, research institutions, or academic medical centers. • Familiarity with digital communication tools and platforms. • Experience leveraging data and analytics for communication strategies.
