Job Highlights Location: Hybrid remote work arrangement, with the possibility of working from remote locations (subject to University approval) Position: Merlin Datasets Coordinator Company: Cornell University, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Compensation: A competitive salary range of $62,035 - $67,938 Start Date: Immediate openings available Key Responsibilities As the Merlin Datasets Coordinator, you will be responsible for: Enabling regional expansion and improving the performance of Merlin's machine learning models, particularly the Merlin Sound ID and Photo ID features in the app Collaborating with a team of machine learning researchers, production engineers, outreach specialists, and project managers to integrate cutting-edge research advances into production software Shaping the integration of Merlin's models into the Merlin app, eBird tool suite, and future software and hardware applications Coordinating multiple groups working towards the same deliverable and timeline for public launch Developing trust with external collaborators and encouraging participation in projects Clearly articulating vision and plans, and providing instruction effectively to all levels of management, staff, new partners, funding agencies, project participants, and visitors Anticipating needs of the project and fulfilling project objectives with minimal supervision Traveling to remote field locations when necessary Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need: A Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, information science, or a related field 2+ years of experience working across cultures in conservation, ornithology, or a related field A deep understanding of birds and the birding community, including advanced field identification skills by sight and sound of thousands of species of birds Experience watching birds and working on projects to advance birdwatching and bird conservation Project management skills to coordinate multiple groups working towards the same deliverable and timeline Extensive experience using and contributing data to eBird, Merlin, and the Macaulay Library Strong interpersonal and communication skills The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of management and staff internally and externally A valid passport and driver's license Preferred Qualifications While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable: An advanced degree in a relevant field Experience working with software development teams and/or research groups managing large datasets Technical project management skills Experience with SQL, Python, and/or R data analysis tools Basic graphic design skills Fluency in Spanish to communicate with communities in Latin America Familiarity with software development and testing processes Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits As a member of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology team, you will have access to a wide range of career development opportunities, including: Professional development workshops and training programs Collaboration with leading researchers and conservationists in the field Opportunities to contribute to cutting-edge research and conservation projects A dynamic and supportive work environment that encourages innovation and creativity Work Environment and Company Culture Cornell University is an innovative Ivy League university and a great place to work.
