Mid-Level UX Designer - Contract, Remote (U.S.)

UpTop is seeking experienced independent UX/UI design consultants to partner with us on a contract basis. As a collaborator with UpTop, you’ll contribute to a wide range of client projects using a design thinking mindset and lean UX methodology. We’re looking for versatile designers who can lead or support across the full UX spectrum—from research and conceptual design to prototyping and usability testing. What You'll Do: • Balance user needs, business goals, and technical constraints across various projects • Design intuitive, effective user interfaces following UX best practices for web and mobile platforms • Conduct project discovery, stakeholder interviews, and requirements gathering • Collect and analyze both qualitative and quantitative data to inform design direction • Plan and execute UX research: user interviews, journey mapping, surveys, card sorting, and tree testing • Create mid- to high-fidelity wireframes and interactive prototypes using Figma • Apply strong visual design fundamentals—typography, color, layout—while working within or expanding client brand systems • Deliver detailed design specifications including interaction states and annotations for development handoff • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including client stakeholders, project managers, developers, and fellow designers What We’re Looking For • Independent contractors/freelancers with strong communication and client interaction skills • A collaborative mindset with the ability to self-manage and meet deadlines • Proficiency in user-centered design methodologies and iterative design practices • A sharp eye for detail with demonstrated visual design polish • Strategic and tactical design thinking across project phases • At least 5 years of UX/UI design experience, ideally with agencies, consultancies, or as a freelancer Additional Details • This is a contract opportunity for independent consultants (1099) who operate as registered business entities or LLCs; not a full-time employment position. • Work is fully remote (U.S.-based only) • You must be authorized to work in the U.S. We cannot sponsor or assume sponsorship of employment visas We pride ourselves as having a relaxed, fun and rewarding work environment.
