Default Work Shift: Day (United States of America) Hours: 40 Salary range: $20.71 - $31.46 Schedule: Full Time Shift Hours: 12 Hour employee Department: Intensive Care Units Job Objective: Performs basic secretarial and clerical/computer skills, order entry, ordering and storing of clerical and clinical supplies, and phone answering. Interprets rhythm strips and dysrhythmias; performs venipuncture. Job Description: Education: Required: Proof of completion of an EKG Class within ninety (90) days of hire Preferred: Medical Terminology Class Licensure/Certification: Required: California Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT); American Heart Association BLS Experience: Preferred: Phlebotomy experience Reports To: Director Supervises: N/A Ages of Patients: Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric Blood Borne Pathogens: High Potential Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and unexpected situations, Ability to create a welcoming environment for patients and visitors, demonstrating empathy and respect in all interactions, Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines, Fine motor skills, Written and verbal communication skills Essential Responsibilities 1. Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations. 2. Performs phlebotomy for assigned patients. 3. Performs point-of-care glucose testing for assigned patients. 4. Enters physician orders. 5. Stat orders relayed to nursing in a timely manner. 6. Performs 24-hour checks to assure correct transcription of physician orders by others. 7. Orders preps and tests per guidelines to include: initiating NPO, correct sequencing of tests, change in diet, etc. 8. Prepares charts for admission, transfer, and discharge per Medical Record Policy: Chart order is correct, charts are thinned appropriately, and all pages are addressographed appropriately. 9. Notifies admitting regarding ADT. 10. Completes order entry correctly; places computer order number on physician order sheet as needed. 11. Coordinates ordering unit supplies as directed; aids in keeping unit and supplies orderly. 12. Assists nursing staff with tasks and procedures as designated, such as setting up rooms for admits. 13. Prepares Registered Nurse (RN) worksheets and phones. 14. Documents correct and accurate information on daily census and White Boards. 15. Initiates solutions to unit needs without prompting such as taking part in computer projects, maintenance of bulletin boards and distribution of mail. 16. Interprets rhythm strips accurately; documents rhythm strips according to existing hospital guidelines; communicates in a timely manner all rhythm changes and dysrhythmias to RN. 17. Re-stocks procedure carts after use; checks procedure carts for intact lock each shift and expirations on procedure carts once a month. 18. Performs venipuncture in accordance with phlebotomy and identification and labeling procedures, utilizing Mobile Care Phlebotomy system at bedside to ensure patient safety. 19. Collects patient specimens requiring special collection procedures, and utilizes resources available to assist with such. 20. Observes all isolation precautions and regulations when collecting specimens from isolation patients. 21. Performs point of care glucose monitoring as directed by RN. 22.
