Municipal Planner
About the Role Power-Tek is seeking a skilled Municipal Planner with strong expertise in land-use laws, zoning regulations, and municipal planning processes. This role supports Planning Board functions and engineering reviews for various development projects. Key Responsibilities • Review and evaluate development applications, site plans, and subdivision proposals. • Provide planning testimony when required for Planning Board or Zoning Board hearings. • Interpret municipal zoning ordinances, land-use regulations, development codes, and redevelopment plans. • Support engineering teams during technical reviews and ensure planning compliance. • Prepare planning review letters, reports, and recommendations. • Coordinate with municipal staff, applicants, attorneys, and engineering consultants. • Monitor compliance with state and local planning statutes. Requirements • AICP certification – not mandatory but highly preferred. • 5–10+ years of municipal or planning board experience. • Strong working knowledge of NJ land-use law, zoning requirements, redevelopment processes, and municipal ordinances. • Experience preparing planning reports and presenting findings in public meetings. • Excellent communication, analytical, and interpretation skills. Preferred Qualifications • Experience serving as Planning Board Planner or professional planning consultant. • Familiarity with redevelopment zones, master plan re-exams, and zoning map updates. • Ability to collaborate with engineers, developers, attorneys, and municipal officials.
