Join the Center for Integrated Language Communities (CILC) Team: National Forum on Second Language Literacy Coordinator The Center for Integrated Language Communities (CILC), a National Language Resource Center housed at the Graduate Center, is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated National Forum on Second Language Literacy Coordinator to oversee all activities related to the National Forum on Literacy. As a remote opportunity, this role offers the chance to work with a dynamic team focused on advancing second and heritage language education at minority-serving institutions. About CILC and the National Forum on Literacy CILC is committed to fostering excellence in language education and promoting the development of language resources. The National Forum on Literacy aims to facilitate a national dialogue on the opportunities that literacy development presents for students and programs alike. As the National Forum on Second Language Literacy Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in shaping this conversation and driving initiatives forward. Key Responsibilities Recruitment and Outreach : Recruit faculty for small-group conversations, including preparing materials, advertising, responding to emails, and contacting prospective recruits. Small-Group Sessions Organization : Organize 6 to 10 small-group sessions, including selecting and preparing readings, preparing guiding questions, scheduling, leading meetings, and compiling notes. National Forum Planning : Organize a national Forum to disseminate the work conducted by the small groups, including preparing materials, advertising, organizing sessions, co-leading the Forum, and preparing Forum outcomes for publishing on the CILC site. Additional Duties : Other duties as assigned, ensuring the successful execution of the National Forum on Literacy. Essential Qualifications To be considered for this role, you should possess: An MA in second language acquisition, language education, literacy, or a similar field, or be currently enrolled in a doctoral program in one of these fields. Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively. Excellent attention to detail, ensuring high-quality outputs in all tasks. The ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and a collaborative spirit. Experience working with faculty, understanding their needs and perspectives. Experience teaching second languages at the post-secondary level is preferred, particularly at a minority-serving institution or community college. Preferred Qualifications and Skills Background knowledge in instructed second language acquisition, including pedagogical approaches to teaching second languages, and/or literacy development is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will also possess: A deep understanding of the complexities of language education and literacy development. Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, facilitating effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
