Nurse Advice / Nurse Triage Telephone Services - Remote
Job Title: Registered Nurse – Nurse Advice / Nurse Triage Telephone Services Place of Work (City/State): Remote Shift Schedule • 24/7 rotational coverage including Day, Evening, and Night shifts • Typical shift durations: 8–12 hours (flexible scheduling) • Federal holidays included as facility operates 24/7 License Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) License — any U.S. State, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or U.S. Territory (acceptable under federal guidelines). Experience Needed Minimum 2 years of RN clinical experience (preferred areas: Emergency Department, ICU, or Telephonic Triage). Preferred: Experience with telephonic nurse advice/triage call systems within last 12 months and EHR documentation. Special Skills Needed • Proficient in rapid clinical assessment and decision-making. • Strong communication skills to manage calls empathetically and effectively. • Competency in using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and secure VPN connections. • Culturally competent care awareness, especially in serving American Indian/Alaska Native communities. • Ability to handle multilingual environments; familiarity with Navajo or access to medical interpreter services. • Strong understanding of HIPAA, CMS, and Joint Commission standards. Responsibilities • Provide 24/7 telephonic nurse advice and triage services for Indian Health Service patients across Gallup and Shiprock Service Units. • Conduct symptom assessments using clinical triage protocols (Rapid Triage Screening Model). • Determine care urgency and direct patients appropriately (e.g., emergency department, provider referral, or self-care advice). • Document every patient interaction in IHS-approved Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. • Generate detailed call reports, follow-up logs, and maintain accurate documentation in compliance with CMS, HIPAA, and Joint Commission standards. • Offer culturally sensitive care and coordinate interpreter services for non-English-speaking patients. • Participate in quality reviews, audits, and monthly performance evaluations. • Uphold patient confidentiality and adhere to IHS, HIPAA, and federal conduct codes. • Complete mandatory training (Information Security, Privacy Act, Rules of Behavior) and maintain active credentials.
