Out of School Time Programs, Director of Operations – Logistics, Licensing & Implementation
We are a mission-driven, nationwide Out-of-School-Time (OST) organization (Out-of-School-Time refers to before-school, after-school, vacation, and summer programs) serving children and families across multiple states. As we continue to scale, we are seeking a Director of Operations – Logistics, Licensing & Implementation (LLI) to lead the operational backbone of our organization and ensure that our programs are executed with precision, compliance, and care—without losing sight of our mission or our people. The Opportunity This is a senior operations leadership role for a seasoned operator who understands how to scale complex, people-centered organizations. The Director of Operations – LLI will oversee multi-state operational execution, licensing compliance, staffing models, and implementation systems while partnering closely with training and quality leaders to ensure programs are delivered with fidelity. This role requires someone who can operate with discipline while leading through communication—someone who understands that strong relationships with school administrators, families, and staff are essential to operational excellence. Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership & Execution • Lead and oversee the operational structure supporting program implementation across multiple regions and states • Manage and support Assistant Directors and regional operations leaders, ensuring consistency, accountability, and clarity • Ensure programs are properly staffed, scheduled, launched, and sustained in alignment with organizational standards Licensing & Compliance • Own state licensing and regulatory compliance across all programs • Ensure systems, documentation, and practices meet or exceed state and local requirements • Anticipate and mitigate compliance risks in a multi-state operating environment Staffing, Scheduling & Financial Discipline • Ensure staffing levels and schedules align with actual student attendance • Manage staff hours to ensure adherence to approved financial and staffing models • Balance margin discipline with a humane, mission-aligned approach to workforce management Communication, Problem-Solving & Coaching • Serve as a senior operational partner to school administrators, communicating clearly, professionally, and effectively in high-stakes situations • Use evidence-based communication practices to address concerns, resolve challenges, and strengthen trust with school partners • Act as a strong problem solver, approaching operational challenges with curiosity, structure, and accountability • Coach and develop direct reports to be strong communicators and problem solvers with staff, families, and school administrators • Set clear expectations for how issues are escalated, communicated, and resolved across the organization Cross-Functional Partnership • Work in close partnership with training and quality leaders to ensure operational execution aligns with the defined service delivery model • Translate program standards into executable, repeatable operational systems • Use data and field feedback to drive continuous improvement Culture & Leadership • Lead through clarity, empathy, and accountability, especially during periods of growth and change • Protect and strengthen a mission-driven culture while scaling operations • Model calm, disciplined leadership in complex and fast-moving environments Ideal Candidate Profile We are seeking a leader who brings both operational rigor and relational strength to their work. Required Experience • Senior operations leadership experience in Out-of-School-Time (OST), charter school, early childhood, or youth-serving organizations • Working knowledge of OST operations, logistics, and/or state licensing requirements • Demonstrated success managing staffing models, scheduling, and labor hours at scale • Proven ability to communicate effectively with school administrators and external partners • Strong business acumen with the ability to balance quality, compliance, and financial performance Preferred Experience • Operations leadership experience in a $10 million or greater organization • Direct experience leading Out-of-School-Time programs • Multi-state licensing and compliance oversight • Experience operating in high-growth or scaling environments Leadership Attributes • Exceptional communicator who builds trust through clarity and consistency • Skilled coach who develops others into confident communicators and problem solvers • Calm, decisive, and solutions-oriented • Comfortable operating in complexity and ambiguity • Mission-aligned and values-driven, with deep respect for children, families, and staff Why This Role Matters This role sits at the heart of our ability to scale with integrity.
