As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in shaping our programs and capacity building initiatives, working closely with our Executive Director to drive success. About The Watering Hole Based in South Carolina, The Watering Hole is a poetry nonprofit that has been building poetry education resources since 2013. Our goal is to create a more inclusive and diverse literary landscape, with a focus on Southern writers and readers of color. We are a small office of remote-working volunteers and are in the process of developing our core team of paid employees. Primary Function The Programs and Capacity Assistant position is a part-time contractual role, expected to expand to a full-time position with proven success. As a key member of our team, you will work directly with the Executive Director to take on key program and capacity building support roles, including: Developing and executing a communications strategy Regular newsletters Website updates and online platform updates Donor communications Updates to our program participants Mailings Monthly reports to stakeholders Misc. capacity communications Off-Boarding Administrative Tasks In addition to program support, you will also be responsible for off-boarding administrative tasks from the Executive Director, including: Logistical support for programs Attending key training Implementing strategic plan elements Misc. capacity support Salary and Schedule The salary for this role is $24,000 per year, with a time commitment of 5-20 hours per week, depending on the pace of work and upcoming deadlines. This is a contractual role, expected to continue through at least June 2026, with the possibility of extension. Experience and Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need: At least 3 years of experience in programming, office management, as an assistant, or in a related position At least 1 year of non-profit experience (preferred) Demonstrated ability to take primary responsibility for a diverse number of projects, define necessary tasks, and complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision Highly organized and exceptional attention to detail Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines, analyze and prioritize tasks Excellent written and verbal communication skills Adaptable, flexible, and enjoys doing work that requires frequent shifts in direction Excellent computer and internet fluency, including expertise with Google Drive, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other electronic support systems Strong commitment to The Watering Hole's mission Ability to maintain the utmost confidentiality and ethical standards Comfortable and knowledgeable in and among communities of color Ability to pass a criminal background check and child abuse/neglect registry check Skills and Competencies Required To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to: Work independently with minimal supervision Prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously Communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including program participants, donors, and team members Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion Be adaptable and flexible in a fast-paced environment Demonstrate a strong commitment to The Watering Hole's mission and values Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to: Develop your skills and expertise in program management, communications, and capacity building Work with a dynamic team of passionate individuals who are dedicated to creating positive change Contribute to the development of innovative programs and initiatives that promote poetry education and community engagement Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities Work Environment and Company Culture We offer a remote work environment, with the opportunity to work from home or a co-working space.
