The Data Governance Associate role supports the implementation of data governance and management practices, ensuring adherence to data quality standards and contributing to regulatory reporting preparation. Responsibilities Develop collaborative working relationships with all Commonwell stakeholders, both internal and external vendor partnerships Ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally, with all levels of the organization Strong ability to work as part of a cross-cultural/functional team including flexibility to facilitate meetings with participants from multiple locations when necessary Excellent interpersonal skills in areas such as teamwork, team motivation, and negotiation with vendors Develop, operationalize, and monitor compliance with the approved IT risk management thresholds, third party Service Level Agreement (SLA), contract obligations, company governance policies and metrics, industry best practices (including review of reports, certifications, evidence documentation, etc.) Enable operationalization of the security and governance frameworks, including and not limited to controls, requirements, processes and procedures suitable to the operating environment and aligned to industry leading best practices (NIST, ISO, SOC, PIPEDA, etc.) Ensure all policies supporting the It risk posture are assessed and modified according to their maintenance cycles Contribute to due diligence assessments for internal and/or third parties and provide recommendations to strengthen IT risk posture Liaise with risk owners, data stewards, data owners, privacy data representatives, within the company and monitor due diligence in case of governance, data / activities, policy adherence, compliance, etc Skills Develop collaborative working relationships with all Commonwell stakeholders, both internal and external vendor partnerships Ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally, with all levels of the organization Strong ability to work as part of a cross-cultural/functional team including flexibility to facilitate meetings with participants from multiple locations when necessary Excellent interpersonal skills in areas such as teamwork, team motivation, and negotiation with vendors Working knowledge of data practices in the financial and insurance sectors, with familiarity in Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance data structures and workflows Foundational understanding of the data lifecycle and data architecture principles, with the ability to support data design and documentation efforts Familiarity with data governance tools and platforms such as Microsoft Purview or Collibra, including data cataloging and metadata management Awareness of privacy, security, and compliance frameworks (e.g., PIPEDA), with the ability to apply relevant policies to data handling and access Ability to interpret business and technical requirements, classify data appropriately, and assist in identifying relevant stakeholders and access controls Proficient in identifying and documenting data quality issues, including inconsistencies and gaps, and escalating concerns to appropriate teams for resolution Experience supporting data issue resolution and contributing to root cause analysis in collaboration with business and technical teams Familiarity with insurance statistical reporting and compliance requirements (e.g., IBC, OMIA, FMRe, GISA, FSRA), with the ability to assist in data preparation and validation Knowledge of development and refinement of data procedures and policies aimed at improving data quality, reducing duplication, and supporting compliance with retention and protection standards Benefits Remote-first workplace Flexible Work Policy Competitive compensation and benefits package Opportunities for training and career development Community involvement and volunteering opportunities Corporate Wellness Program Company Overview The Commonwell MIG offers a complete range of insurance products including residential, automobile, commercial, farm and watercraft.
