The Computer Science Research Institute (CSRI) is seeking summer R&D graduate interns to participate in collaborative research in various areas of computer science and applied mathematics, focusing on developing solutions and algorithms for complex scientific problems. Responsibilities Research and development activities (reviewing existing techniques, seeking new approaches, developing computing solutions) Developing algorithms and software for the research area Running simulation codes Collaboration with Sandia staff involved in the research area Developing publication of analysis Presenting results to the research group Skills Earned bachelor's degree Currently attending and enrolled full time in the spring term immediately preceding the internship (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, asylees or refugees in the U.S Majoring in chemistry, computer science, engineering, mathematics, neuroscience, physics, statistics, or a related field Communication skills appropriate for participating in multi-disciplinary research teams Software development and programming experience (C++, C, Fortran, Matlab, Java, Python) Knowledge or the interest to learn parallel programming such as MPI, OpenMP, and/or threads Experience with mathematical modeling techniques (e.g., linear and integer programming, statistical modeling, system dynamics modeling) Benefits Flexible work arrangements for many positions include 9/80 (work 80 hours every two weeks, with every other Friday off) and 4/10 (work 4 ten-hour days each week) compressed workweeks, part-time work, and telecommuting (a mix of onsite work and working from home) Generous vacation Strong medical and other benefits Competitive 401k Learning opportunities Relocation assistance Amenities aimed at creating a solid work/life balance Company Overview Sandia is a conducts research and development into the non-nuclear components of nuclear weapons.
