Old Dominion Freight Line is a leading transportation solutions provider seeking a Java Developer I to assist in designing, testing, and implementing programming applications. The role involves working with middleware technologies, databases, and supporting production systems to ensure quality service for customers. Responsibilities • Assist in implementation planning, fit analysis, configuration, testing, rollout, and post implementation support of software applications • Elicit, analyze, validate, specify, verify, and manage the needs of project stakeholders including customers and end users • Analyze, review, and alter programs to increase operating efficiency or adapt new requirements • Coordinate resolution of issues and defects discovered during testing • Gather business requirements and define detailed specifications • Assist in the development and debugging of software using Java/J2EE • Participate in the development of software using web presentation technologies such as AJAX, JSON, JavaScript, CSS and HTMLS • Work with Business Analysts to design and deploy database schemas and specify all attributes of database tables including primary keys, foreign keys, identities, constraints, default values, indexes, and triggers • Provide on call support for production systems to ensure on-time, quality service can be provided to customers • Assist with database application development using SQL and JDBC • Process documentation to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements • Work with more experienced developers to develop skills Skills • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent education and experience • 1+ year educational and or work experience with web applications and hosting environments • Understanding of software development methodologies and modern best practices • Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies (Scrum, XP, Kanban, etc.) • Familiarity with JSP/Servlet container frameworks, Apache, Tomcat, JSP, JSF, Hibernate, REST, SOAP, Web Services, Web Services Security, and Test-Driven Development with JUnit or equivalent tool • Experience with Eclipse or equivalent modern IDE • Experience with Subversion or equivalent Source Control Management solution • Experience developing web applications and user interfaces with Java technologies such as JDBC, JSP, JSF, and servlets • Ability to multitask and work as a team player • Strong problem-solving skills and self-motivated • Excellent verbal and written communication skills Benefits • Great Health Benefits including a Zero premium medical plan for employee only coverage • Vision & Dental • Short Term & Long Term Disability • Flex Spending Accounts • 401k Retirement plan with company match and additional company annual discretionary match opportunity • Life Insurance • Wellness Program • 12 Days Paid Time Off • 9 Paid Holidays including a birthday holiday • Tuition Reimbursement for Drivers and Technicians • Training and growth opportunities to build a career • We prioritize our OD family of employees • Ability to advance through our promote from within philosophy • National Career Opportunities Available at our 260+ service centers Company Overview • ODFL is a leading, less-than-truckload, union-free company providing premium service to all its customers.
