[Remote] Principal Energy Process & Product Designer (m/f/d)

Remote, USA Full-time
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. 1KOMMA5° is creating Germany's largest one-stop-shop for the sale, installation, and servicing of solar panels, heat pumps, electricity solutions, and charging infrastructure. The Principal Energy Process & Product Designer will revolutionize the energy transition by defining scalable product logic, ensuring regulatory compliance, and architecting automated workflows to support the company's growth in the energy sector. Responsibilities • Define Scalable Product Logic: You define the operational backbone of our energy products (tariffs, flexibility services). You ensure they are designed to handle mass volumes smoothly from the start, preventing operational bottlenecks before they occur • Regulatory Engineering: You act as the translator between law and product/tech. You convert complex regulatory frameworks (e.g., §14a EnWG, Stromsteuer, dynamic grid fees) into clear logical requirements for Product Owners and Engineering, ensuring compliance is "baked in" by design • Architect Automated Workflows: You design fully automated loops for core international utility processes (like market communication/MaKo or billing validation). You build the structural foundation that allows our Energy Operations teams to manage exponential growth efficiently • Integrate Innovation with Tradition: You define the technical and procedural standards for how 1KOMMA5° interacts with traditional players (DSOs, TSOs). You build the bridge that allows our modern tech stack to "speak" with the conventional energy world without friction • Enable Product Feasibility: You partner with Product Managers during the discovery phase. You identify regulatory or process complexity upfront and design smart, scalable workarounds to ensure we build products that actually work in the market Skills • 7+ years at the intersection of Energy Economy and Product/Process Design (e.g. at a digital utility, energy software provider, or specialized consultancy) • Proven track record of designing scalable energy processes (Trading Interfaces, Monitoring Processes) that were successfully implemented in software • Deep understanding of the energy market design also internationally, though with German focus (Different roles, balancing groups,..) • Ability to fully grasp regulatory policies (EnWG, MsbG) and translate them into logical product requirements - be able to compare changes/initiatives in different countries • Systematic & Structural: You approach regulatory complexity with a logic-first mindset, breaking down chaotic requirements into clean, executable system rules • Deep Dive Capability: You operate deep in the operational engine room, defining exact data flows and logic gates rather than just high-level concepts • Automation First: You prioritize systemic solutions over manual workarounds, designing processes that handle exponential volume without linear operational effort • You speak the languages of Product (User Stories, Requirements), Tech (APIs, Data Models), and Energy (Edifact, Bilanzkreise) fluently • Excellent English and German skills (German is mandatory for reading regulation) Benefits • You are part of an international, dynamic, and highly motivated team of people who have proven to make things happen • With your work, you accelerate the "energy transition" and hence have a direct impact on our climate • Work with and learn from other super-smart colleagues • You will enjoy direct contact with core decision-makers • Individualised opportunities for professional development • Reporting directly to the CTO • You will enjoy the best chances of entering full-time in one of Europe’s most thriving scaleups • You work remotely (Germany-wide), with offices in Hamburg, Berlin or Munich • Create a healthy balance alongside your work and enjoy all the benefits of the EGYM Wellpass • Benefits and discounts are yours with Futurebens • Whether city bike or e-bike - be flexible with our job bike leasing and do something good for the environment at the same time Company Overview • 1Komma5° is a home electrification and climatetech company that provides intelligent energy solutions and promotes a CO₂-neutral lifestyle. It was founded in 2021, and is headquartered in Hamburg, Hamburg, DEU, with a workforce of 1001-5000 employees. Its website is Apply tot his job
